CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Cam Newton is the No. 1 rated quarterback in the NFL.

OK, so it was only for the preseason.

But according to Pro Football Focus, the Carolina Panthers quarterback out-performed all of his peers in the preseason despite getting the first-team offense in the end zone only twice and completing only 54.2 percent of his passes.

Newton had an overall rating of 6.4. Buffalo’s Tyrod Taylor and E.J. Emanuel were next at 4.1, which should tell you something.

Outside of Newton and Indianapolis’ Andrew Luck, tied for fifth at 3.8, top quarterbacks such as Aaron Rodgers, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Drew Brees were nowhere to be found among the top 10.

Carolina backup Derek Anderson was tied for 26th with a ranking of 1.0. Manning was No. 88 at minus-2.3.
