OTL Report: Goodell's Handling of Deflategate was a "Make-up Call," After Letting Pats Slide On Spygate (Panthers Related)

I think what gets me more is them stealing play sheets from locker rooms and sending guys over to the other team dressed in NFL Photographer shirts. Legal or not, it's clearly a violation, that's why they staged the look and covered up their Pats logos.

The fact that Mangini basically became a coach specifically because of BB and knew all the shady poo he had done, it's no wonder why the NYJ hate is so extreme from BB.

If they stole play sheets that's one thing and totally different than what I was posting about. I'm just tired of our fans pretending we really won the Super Bowl because they legally taped our practices.

To be fair, it doesn't take cheating to know exactly what plays a John Fox-led Panthers team was going to run at any given time or in any given situation. Hell, on this very board during gameday chats we had guys guessing with probably 80% accuracy.

yes but calling out a run vs calling out protections, the running lane, the protections, the lead blocker, the exact routes and even changes at the line. That's different.

And, the focus is often on their defense shutting down the offense early because of their knowledge of scripted plays, but I actually tend to think more about how many points they scored that they shouldn't have otherwise because of the intel they had on the defense that week as well.  Here was the quote from Buckner I mentioned earlier:

(posted here, but I believe it was originally on PFT.  Regardless, he stated it on live radio) http://forums.chargers.com/showthread.php?t=45110

Former Panthers defensive tackle Brentson Buckner hinted at such suspicions during a Friday appearance on the Mac Attack on WFNZ in Charlotte.

"I know in that Super Bowl game . . . we worked on some stuff that we had never ran against Tom Brady," Buckner said. "We got in that game and he called out everything that we did. . . . It makes you wonder about the knowledge that Tom Brady and those guys [had] because they literally in plays knew where you were going."

And in regards to what @rodeo pointed out about filming not being illegal and such.  Yes, the idea had been around for years.  I'm sure many teams had tried to decipher calls over the years, but it was the lengths to which the Pats went to gain an advantage.  They didn't "try" to decipher calls, they did.  They straight up STOLE play sheets, lol.  I suspect the reason it wasn't illegal before 2007, was because no one discussed it, or had reason to, until they realized all of the dirt and finagling the Pats were doing with the rules that already existed.

This right here all day long.

That kind of thing is/was so egregious that there was probably no thought to have to make up an actual rule to keep someone from doing it.

OTL is the king of, "We have this report, from anonymous sources, with no evidence but what they have to say, and can't really prove any of it happened, but here it is."

When discussing the NFL and Roger Goodell's handling of DeflateGate and SpyGate, former Saints defensive coordinator Greg Williams was quoted as saying "Cut off the head, and the body will die."

I kid, I kid.

It's still actually legal though. The only thing that was made illegal in 2007 was filming from the sidelines. You can still legally film from nearby buildings, even the stands, I think. The Pats got in trouble because in 2007 when it was made illegal, they continued to do it.

If they stole play sheets or did other illegal things then punish and hate them for that, I would and will. But Spygate was honestly blown out of proportion.

How about answer my question...

Just because something is legal, does that make it right?

Can't wait to hear the spin from Pats fans.

Goodell has been the devil to them for the last 6 months...now he was a big part in letting their cheating go unpunished for the most part.  Pats fans have been wanting him gone (well, most fans), and now what ends up killing his tenure as commish may very well have been his job in helping them...lulz.

Oh...and karma, if you exist?  How about helping the Panthers for once instead of continually screwing us. Yeah we can't get the Super Bowl back, and the loss to the 49ers in 13' hurt and was a good bit our own doing (though already said the NFL clearly wanted 9ers/Seahawks.  But hey, NFL, throw a 1st rounder at us or something to compensate for being cheated in a fuging Super Bowl.
