The Sophomore Slump

Just throwing this out there because we will be heavily dependent upon 2nd year players.

In fact, this Panther team may have more starting 2nd-year players than any other team in the NFL. We're looking at 7 players either starting or heavy-rotational 2nd-year players.

This isn't a chicken-little/Debbie-Downer thread, just wanted to go ahead and get the conversation over and done with before the season starts, rather than just ignoring it...just as an ice-breaker.

Whoa, be thou fearful of the discourse which will surely ensue upon thine thread. For thou hast made a terrible misjudgment in authoring such a troublesome thread.

LOL...at least we don't have any Madden-cover guys or Campbell's Chunky-Soup spokespersons.

Beware the Madden-Curse. Beware the CAmpbell's Chunky Soup and yes...we must acknowledge the sophomore slump.

If a player sucks in year one, chances are he will still suck next year (maybe a little less suckage in year two). Same goes for the dominant player as for progression. Talent trumps "luck" in the NFL. Don't think Bene (for example), will crap the bed this year.....no worries.

I say the experience will benefit our 2nd year players.......

just don't want any Panthers signing on as a Subway spokesman.

This is a serious concern. We wouldn't want our 2nd year guys to suffer the awful season that Luke had during his sophomore year.

Now that is the kind of optimism I'm looking for out of the Huddle!!! Nicely played, my good fellow.

On another note, if you haven't seen the effects of the dreaded Campbell's Soup Curse and are really bored...you should most definitely check out the list of victims that sponsor has racked-up.

Even Michael Jordan couldn't escape the sophomore slump, different sport yes, but I'm not gonna get my hopes up for any breakout performances from our sophomores until I see how we do against the middle 1/3 of our schedule.

Can KB's injury be considered a sophomore slump?  That's one hell of a slump, if so.  I think we'll be alright.  There are enough veterans on this team to pick up our inexperienced players when they start hitting the wall.

KBs injury occurred because the Panthers were so stacked that the powers that be would not allow us to have an unfair advantage against the rest of the league and took out a one-year temperance check strictly for Drew Brees' mole.

Regardless of what this year holds for us, this is the perfect year for our young core to really come together.

i admit, last year I was calling for dumpster-fire and basically, that's almost what we ended up with. Wholesale changes across the OL and upgrades across the board.

Keep pounding is still the mantra for this team and its gonna take a blue-collar effort from our vets and some steady improvement from our youngsters to make this year better than what we lucked into last season.

and yes, our depth is greatly improved across the board. I'm still not sold on our ST and once again we are going to need our rookies to play major roles in furthering the development of what could be a dynasty once all the stars align.

The sucky thing is that Shula can still get another pass as we lost our #1 receiver and the sheer number of first-year starters within this organization along the O-line and receiving corp...
