2013- A look back at WR stats and why I feel good.. And you should too.

Its no doubt that 2013 was one of the best seasons in the Panthers history. 12-4, won the NFCs, got a playoff bye, it doesnt get any better than that (well, winning a SB is better but you know what I mean.) My point is this, if we can go 12-4 with WR stat lines like this, then I see no reason whatsoever why we cant again this year, maybe not quite 12–4 but 10-6 should be very doable to say the least.  So without further adieu..

Steve Smith-  64 Recs, 745 yds, 4 TDs.  Yep, thats it. 745 rec yds and a whopping 4 TDs for our "bonafide no 1 WR" I honestly had to do a double take when I went and looked up his stats that year earlier, I forgot how low his production was that year.

Brandon Lafell- 49 Recs, 627 yds, 5 TDs.

Ted Ginn- 36 Recs, 556 yds, 5 TDs

Domenik Hixon- 7 Recs, 55 yds, 1 TD

Greg Olsen- 73 Recs, 816 yds, 6 TDs

Amd there you have it. Now, say you had no clue what our record was and you looked at those rec stats and then was asked to guess the win/loss record for a team with those kind of mediocre rec stats and I guarantee you would not come anywhere near guessing 12-4.

So lets seee, I could see Funchess easily reaching Smitty's numbers of around 700 rec yds and a few TDs. I see no reason why Ginn cant match his stats from that year seeing as how good he looked during camp and pre season. Barring a catastrophe there is just no possible way Olsen gets less than 816 yds and 6 TDs.

I think its very reasonable that Cotch could match Lafell's numbers from that year.

As for Philly? Hes the only one I see struggling to put up the massive video game numbers that Hixon put up that year, I kid Philly, I kid (sort of)

A good point. Maybe all is not lost. But that was 2013, this is 2015. Do keep that in mind.

While this is true, not many of us expected to do quite that good, we knew we had the potential but that it would be difficult. And especially after starting 1-3 (which really should've been 3-1... but i just get irritated when i think back to those first 2 games..) things were looking kinda down.

But I agree this is a different team. Stronger at LB and DT (when Star comes back) but weaker  at DE (No matter how you look at it Hardy was a beast). Not sure about the secondary yet.. But i would definitely be stronger offensively if KB was here but really dont know. So we'll see.

Theres a lot of optimism but a lot of uncertainties and question marks. Cant wait for the season to start.
