Gettleman has long term plans for Wegher

All I can say about this is this:

If I were an NFL GM the team I led would most likely have ZERO RBs on a second contract.

But you better make sure that you're scouting for RB's is top notch or you end up with Trent Richardson as your back in the playoffs.

I can't be the only one that sees the irony here

Statistically he's right. They were breaking NFL rushing records during their prime years. Deangelo was second to only Jim Brown in YPC.

Of course that was only 2 seasons and then they rode out the next 4 years purely on their reputation from those 2 seasons.

Wegher may be part of the longer term future (as is CAP), but this year is J-Stew's.  In my mind, 28 is not an afterthought.

Stew is a beast, pure and simple.

What you may not have known to be one of Stewart's strengths in the pass game, is his ability to break tackles, which he is the best in the NFL at, according to Pro Football Focus.

Stewart led the NFL through weeks 12-15 with 437 rushing yards during that four week span. One of the NFL’s more elusive rushers, Stewart finished the season having forced 56 missed tackles combined as a rusher and receiver.

Only DeMarco Murray rushed for more yards over the final five weeks of the season. During that same span, Stewart led the league with his 5.4 YPC mark. This is the Jonathan Stewart we all knew, but he was never able to realize his potential because of injuries. Stewart was able to hold up down the stretch and into the playoffs, giving the Panthers confidence to make the move to release DeAngelo Williams this offseason and hand the keys to Stewart. As long as he’s healthy, Stewart is one of the best runners in the league. He was the main reason the Panthers were able to go 4-1 after their Week 12 bye and sneak into the playoffs.
