Seahawks are talking to teams about trading Kam Chancellor

They are now in the world of actually paying real NFL QB money for the QB position.  Browner, Byron Maxwell, etc..all left. Richard Sherman and Thomas have top 3 contracts at their position.  Now Russell Wilson does as well.  They can't field everyone and field a competitive team top to bottom if they give out top 3 money to all their best players.

2 years ago Richard Sherman, Thomas and Russell Wilson were a combined 4.4 million cap hit(dats crazy btw).  This year they are 40.4million!!!!   Michael Bennet wants a raise, Kam Chancellor wants a raise,  it's impossible to keep everyone and still keep a competitive top to bottom roster.

If staggered positioning and cap management you can sign everyone.  However as we have seen with our Marty Hurney contacts, those contracts end up becomming an anchor in the end.  Better to trade him now and get top dollar.

Very true.

Question: Can Seattle win a Super Bowl without Chancellor?

I think they may go all in, and worry about the cap implications later. They may need an elite defense and some Russell Wilson voodoo to be a Super Bowl contender. Their O-line is probably worse than ours, and their receivers aren't great either. Marshawn Lynch has a lot of miles on him. They draft well for the most part, so they may want to go for it knowing they can fill out the roster with cheap draft picks. A part of me thinks they have a window they are trying to keep open. Plus, trading him to a contender would look very bad. Imagine trading him to a contender and he helps them beat Seattle.

I highly doubt that... by the time their contracts are up (Star has a 5th year option) this team won't have guys like Stewart eating up cap space, Olsen may be gone by then, Kalil will most certainly be gone by then and even TD may be done by then. No way Gettleman gets big guys like this just to let them walk in their prime

Agreed. Star can be kept through 2017 with the fifth year option, or through 2018 with the franchise tag. He'll be 26 in a couple months, so maybe they keep him through his age 29 season without a long term commitment. At any rate, this is a great problem to have. Hopefully we keep having these 'problems'.

yeah that's a projected ranking.  we're talking about two different things so no wonder.

why does he project as one of the best compete S by PFF?

Dude is legit.  I think the best DBs in order are

Earl

Kam

Sherman.

Sherman gets the hype but too many QBs tend to only randomly attack to his strengths and not his weaknesses.   Never get that.  He is definitely good.....I never thought he matched Revis when Revis was on his prime

Chancellor is the second best, behind Sherman. Chancellor sets the tone on defense and is IMO the best enforcer and hardest hitting safety. You could tell even in our playoff game that he influenced everything over the middle. Not only is he an incredible enforcer, but he's also terrific in coverage. We saw it first hand with Mike Tolbert. Earl Thomas doesn't really scare anyone, IMO. He's a great center fielder out there, but I think he's a little overrated. I don't think it's worth it to trade for him, but he'd take this defense to a new level. Going from Roman Harper to Kam Chancellor is probably a two win swing.

I just wish we would focus on having an all around D instead of one that basically lives or dies on the play of a DL.....doesn't matter how great you are at DL  bc it won't show up every game all game and then injuries happen.   Then you got big problems.

I think we have.  Irt the secondary, we drafted well last year, and signed tillman this offseason.  Our linebackers might be the best in the league.  Our defensive tackles are solid   Our safeties might not be the best, but they have improved over the last couple of years.

But with Johnson getting older and Ealy being a somewhat unknown factor, I think DE is an area we need to look at.  And top quality DE's have a higher market value than top Safeties.

Eric Berry signed a 6 year, $50 mil deal a few years ago

I'd imagine Kam is looking for something similar.

Kam signed a nice contract just over a year ago that was majority front end loaded.  He took nearly 50% of the value of the big contract in the first year and now wants a new one.

No thanks...

I forgot about Stars 5 year option. Well that's good news then.
