Seahawks are talking to teams about trading Kam Chancellor

Now I'm worried they'll trade him to the Falcons.

while I wouldnt WANT Kam on the Falcons, part of the reason he and the LOB have so much success is due to the pressure from SEA's d-line.

Kam is a helluva safety, but take him out of that defense and I bet he looks less like an All-Pro

We're not trading for Kam guys, sorry but that's not Gettleman's style

He'd rather draft the next Kam Chancellor or sign an unheralded free agent with something to prove: Mitchell, Coleman

I don't think SEA even trades him, and the Giants don't even make that much sense unless Landon Collins is part of the deal. In which case NY gets better in the short term, but more cash-strapped and older as well

there is a good reason why marquee trades rarely happen in the NFL

if atlanta ships picks to seattle for chancellor that would mean they still haven't learned their lesson after all these years.  that franchise has had some serious talent at DB in the dimitroff era but their defense always seems to top out at average as a unit.  that's all due to an extreme lack of investment in their front 7.  granted they did take a stab at it with the selection of beasley but that's just not going to be enough at least for now.

i don't have his PFF grades right in front of me or anything but i've always had the impression that chancellor wasn't really known for being a monster in coverage anyway.  my perception of him is that he's more of a hard hitting box safety/almost tweener-ish which wouldn't really help shore up any of the major areas of weakness for the falcons.

PFF only graded 3 safeties high in both run and pass coverage last year....he was one of them

We would have to give up Kalil(their interior OL is a disaster) or a 1st to get Kam neither of which is something I would want to do. I also don't think he would fit well on the Panthers defense. He does his best work near the line of scrimmage which means you need a FS with a lot of range which we don't have in order to use him to his fullest ability.

likely just a draft pick...

is a draft pick worth the best SS in the game?

all come down to affording him which we can't....but people dismissing him are crazy.  Also dismissing the need for having talent in our slow secondary is nuts.  We need more than DL play.   Too much talk about only getting that

curiosity got the better of me and i looked it up

19th in coverage/25th against the run/19th overall

His coverage rating is misleading though. In Seattle's scheme he is very rarely asked to cover the deep part of the field. He primarily covers underneath routes in a zone. So while he does do that pretty well, it's much more comparable to what a LB is asked to do than what a safety is traditionally asked to do.

need to look at his grades not rank.  Guys that don't play hardly factor in ranks.

only 3 Safties grade out high in both run and pass.  He is one.

i sorted it by played 60% of snaps (highest % where he was on the board, he disappeared when sorted to 75%) and he's still 18th overall/14th coverage/15th against the run

if he went to the falcons though would that push william moore to FS?  he's their SS right now.

how do you define "high"

i see a lot of green in both columns for a lot of players.  maybe among SS but i'm not about to dig through that many individual player pages
