Seahawks are talking to teams about trading Kam Chancellor

Other than KK/Star, where else would our money be clustered?  We very well may have to choose between KK and Star.

LB, DT...if we hit on Shaq, Luke is young enough both would be very expensive by the time we get to Shaq's deal.

That issue would be years away....but it is still out there.

Dude, that secondary is nothing without Earl Thomas. His ability to play centerfielder while possessing top tier athleticism and instincts is something else. He's literally the safety version of Keek. Without Earl, Chancellor can't play enforcer and Sherman can't play man-to-man as good as they do right now.

Chancellor is a beast. A monster. A nightmare. However, that defense can't afford to lose Wagner and Thomas. Chancellor and Sherman are pieces that compliment them nicely.

he is such a physical tone setter people for some reasons think that is all he is...Kam's coverage ability is underrated.  He plays both run and pass well.

PFF if you find them interesting (some do, some don't) only graded 3 safeties high in both run/pass coverage.

I'll take those kinds of issues all day everyday.  Like you said, it's years away before it becomes a problem.  Hasn't TD already said that next season is it for him?  His contract will drop off prior to a lot of these coming up.  Stew's huge deal will be gone.  Tolbert's excessive cap hit will be gone.  Kalil's contract drops off big time after next season.  So far, the cap for the future is looking pretty good.

S is our biggest weakness outside WR.   Not saying we can afford Kam but we need help

Pass defense begins with getting pressure and the de is an integral part of pressure.  At this point, defensive end is a bigger concern imo.  Hopefully, Ealy, Johnson, Addison and company alleviate those concerns.

And Defensive ends are just worth more in general.  Seahawks would want a high price and I just wouldn't want to see them pay that price for a safety.

I think this whole conversation is moot. Seattle's CBs are Sherman, Cary Williams, Tharold Simon, Marcus Burley, and Tye Smith. That's… not good. Without Chancellor, that secondary goes from great to eh. I think they have to pay him if they seriously want to contend. Either that or Chancellor sits a couple games and comes back on his own.

Let's see how great Kam's cover skills are when he isn't playing beside the best cover safety in the game and arguably the best CB in the game.

He's really good, don't get me wrong, but more than anyone else on that team, he's a product of the talent around him.  It's that talent around him that allows him to roam and do what he does.

Or better coverage by secondary mean the the QB has to hold the ball longer = more opportunity for the DE to get the QB

There is more than one way to skin a cat.

Those of you saying you'd be delighted to have him, would you still want him if it meant giving up a 1st or 2nd round pick AND giving him a huge contract, because that's what it would probably mean.

I'd love to have an elite safety patrolling the secondary behind our front seven, but we still need more weapons for Cam and a DE to develop to take over for CJ.  Might need a #1 CB too if we don't retain Norman.

Yea KKam is worth the money IMO but it want come from us.  We would have the best LB/DB combo in the league.  Nascar would take on a whole new meaning.

Its called team and system, the best CB and FS wouldn't be that good without Kam help either.

In Carolina he would have Norman and Bene who aren't that bad of coverage guys.

Earl Thomas is the best FS in the league, I don't care what team he's playing on.  Thomas is the key cog of that secondary.

With that said, Kam absolutely killed us in the playoffs last year and I think that might be why so many on this forum have such a hard on for him.

Don't get me wrong, he's very good as I've said several times, but virtually every GM in the league would take both Thomas and Sherman over him and it looks like the Seahawks GM - the NFL GM who knows all three the best, both on and off the field - agrees with that.
