The fact thst none our draft picks are projected to start bothers me

Look at it another way. We weren't lousy at those positions, and that's a good thing. Funchess, with KB's injury, may have had a shot at starting, but he was playing catch up from day one, and kept getting dinged.

He is never gonna be a TE in the NFL.

Technically, he already is.

Hmmm... we're currently the 2nd oldest team in the league.  That surprises me.

http://www.phillyvoice.com/ranking-nfl-teams-age/

Obviously losing KB to the IR hurts, as well as letting go of most of our young WRs.  We've added vets in Coleman & Tillman & Oher...  all good moves I think, but this definitely now will be something to keep an eye on.

We also had one of the smallest draft classes.  Perhaps even the smallest, I'm not sure.

I think the move to add some vets was good.  All my research on rookies a few weeks ago showed that when we were too young (especially among starters) our winning percentage decreased.  We need the right mix of youth & experience.  I'd been thinking we were doing pretty well...

But at RB, we've got some great young talent.  Same on the OLine and our DTs and LBs.

Positions of concern re: age would be secondary (Harper, Tillman); WR [Cotchery & Ginn] (hopefully Funchess will develop and KB will return, and Norwood now gives us another young guy to develop...)  Center, and perhaps Tight End too (begin to find someone to develop to play along Greg.  Maybe Simonson could be that guy?  He shows promise.)

I would like to know what is the infatuation with Wes Horton and why cant we find anyone better than him.

How the hell did Rakim Cox no flash anything to say he wouldnt be worth keeping over him?

It's not like Horton is dog crap. He's solid, though maybe not spectacular.  You can probably say that about more than half the guys out there though.

Cox owned scrubs,  but pretty much got owned when he stepped up against better talent

That is the hard part for fans-to see a guy getting sacks and making plays vs. the 3s who are wearing the same uniforms the 1s are wearing.

I think Cox has a high motor but is a lot of wasted motion.  PS will do him good.

The DT from Penn State, for example, is on the PS and most (including me) questioned it.  However, I watched the replay and he is very disciplined.  He needs to work on hands, but is quick and can hold his ground.  I think he might even get time on the varsity if we have any injury.  Reminds me of Jordan Cartsens.

Horton does not do anything against better talent either, and he has been on the team a while. Cox displayed pretty good pass rushing ability that would come in handy, definitely situational only tho. But that is what we need on those crucial 3rd downs, you say Horton is solid but he has never flashed to me on run or pass When plays need to made he is not even in the game from what i have seen.

Hi guys!

I'm a frequent reader of the forum, but do rarely post anything. But with regard to the recent cuts down to the 53, I got a renewed interest with possible comp picks for 2016.

According to this article from Bill Voth -  http://blackandbluereview.com/no-panthers-comp-picks-in-2016/   -
the Panthers will not get any comp pics for 2016. Unrestricted free agents gained after cuts equals two (Coleman, Tillman), while UFA lost equals two (Hardy, Bell). Velasco, as Voth's article refers to, was cut by the Titans earlier in TC and therefore does not count. Given Hardy's high salary, Panthers would possibly gained a third round comp pick if they had lost more UFA then gained.
Therefore, from my understanding, keeping either Coleman or Tillman, would likely cost the Panthers a third round comp pick in 2016 (given that only Hardy and Bell are the only former Panthers UFA signed by other teams). Any thoughts on if keeping either Tillmann or Coleman is worth loosing a third rounder? Personally I think Benwikere is just as good as an option on the outside as Tillmann, and proved this down the stretch last season. Especially I believe Benwikere will be able to keep up with faster wr than Tillman. Given Gettleman's draft record in the earlier rounds, a third rounder could prove very valuable come next years draft

Hortons forte is run stopping. Thats pretty important.

Yeah. Coleman is what you want in a SS. The only problem is having Harper beside him instead of Boston. Tillman is worth it because our CBs are really thin this year and we do have the best 4. The players after them are pretty bad. I wish White didn't get hurt.

    • yeah. winter backpacking trips were the most miserable and amazing experiences. same with the coldest and snowiest hunting  experiences. i love being in it. makes for incredible memories. the worse it was, the more i ended up loving it. made the greatest memories.  i just want to get out of it afterwards.
    • I forgot about Jackson...definitely elite.  The sad part of your list is that 2 of them were 'there for the taking for the Panthers'.  Rumor has it that Hurney loved Herbert and was vetoed on trying to trade up.  And rumor has it that Frank & McCown wanted Stroud.  I believe both rumors.
    • I went on a solo elk hunt in the Flat Tops. It was awesomely miserable. LOL It was a late season hunt, I think third season and it was forecasted to snap off cold with highs in the upper thirties and lows in the single digits. fug it, I'm going anyway. They were wrong. The highs were in the low 20s and the lows were in the negative teens. I shivered so hard the first night I thought my teeth were going to break. It was the only time I've ever been legit concerned that I might be in trouble. Crawled out of my sleeping bag and got a fire started and suffered through the night bundled up next to the fire. I slept the next two nights literally wearing every stitch of clothing I'd brought with Nalgenes full of near boiling water in the bottom of my sleeping bag. That was the only way to have non-frozen water in the morning anyway. There was about a foot of snow on the ground and the melt/freeze crust was almost enough to support your weight but you'd go crashing through just as you went or make your step. It was exhausting travel and every step sounded like a rifle shot. Hunting was basically impossible. I never saw an elk in those four days, only saw 5-6 deer. LOL It was brutal but I loved it. Absolutely beautiful country that is never been to before and haven't been back since. I needed that four day complete break from society fighting for my life against the elements. I'm weird like that.
