Panthers - Jaguars - What Jaguar Fans Are Saying

I could careless about chip kelly, chip doesn't coach the panthers. Pete Carroll got 25 wins and 7 losses. You're only as good as your last one in the NFL, which was under .500

if we're only as good as our last one, then we are division champs and won a playoff game. 12 teams make the playoffs, usually around 8 win a playoff game. that puts us, led by RR and Shula, in the top 10 somewhere. Plus, we won just as many superbowls as the great Pete Carroll did.

we're talking about regular season here, you comment was winning 20 games over 2 seasons. well they won 19 and LOST 13 you seem to be ignoring that. they loss more than they won last year. and pete won a SB 2 seasons ago, panthers never won a SB what are you talking about

My take. The Jags, even with their deficiencies, shouldn't be taken lightly. They have a decent defense and upcoming offense.

I expect this to be a low scoring game. Mainly due to the fact that our offense is not as potent as it should be without KB. Outside of Olsen and Ginn. The other guys are really enigmas. Funchess is a rookie, Brown has had drop issues, Cotchery has sure hands but somehow runs the wrong routes, Norwood is fairly new. So the passing game is suspect until proven otherwise.

If we can't establish the run early on, this game is going to be long. The Jags actually have a decent Dline. I believe they are good on the run.

The key here will definitely be turnovers and who's offense scores first. If either team scores in the first 5 minutes, that will be a momentum giver.

In the end, the defense with most turn overs will win this game. I see a very close game.

17-14 Panthers.

Ok, I posted our Preaseason Offensive Stats above.  Now for Jacksonville's stats:

  • Jax was 23rd in total scoring (69 points) and 22 in points per game (17.2)
  • They 14th in yds per game (308.5)
  • Tied for 20th in total touchdowns (7)
  • They were 8th in passing in the preseason, with 902 passing yards  (225.5 per game)
  • Rushing: They were 28th in RUSHING, with 332 total yards and 83 rushing yards per game.
  • They allowed 10 sacks (ranked 20th)
  • However they threw 0 interceptions.
  • In spite of throwing 0 interceptions, they were 27th in terms of turnovers with a -4 turnover level
  • They made 7 of 9 field goals (both misses were from 50+ yards)

Apparently they were not good on the run in preseason.  They were near the bottom of the league.  Not sure why.  I didn't watch any of their games.  (See stats I just posted above).

We had an excellent preseason in terms of turnovers, JAX not so much.

I've not yet compared our preseason defensive stats with theirs.  Ours were not stellar.  We were pretty much middle of the league in a lot of our defensive stats.  I don't know how Jax was yet.  Stay tuned...

Come on,  it's the jags vs panthers and it's game one, anything can happen.  Jags are getting coached-up pretty good down there and they don't have shula.  They do have a couple of pretty good wrs and a competent qb to move the chains.

On paper we should be favorites and deal a proper beat down due to our recent fortunes and top ranked D, in reality it's the still jags vs panthers.  I want to see us come out and destroy the jags and make every team on our schedule our bitch, but my expectations are tempered.  Teams are getting better just like we are and you know damn well they wanna prove it to us.

I've now looked at some defensive stats too, for both the Panthers & the Jaguars.  I've pulled all the stats - offensive & defensive into side by side table format to make comparison easier.  It looks pretty good for the Panthers.   The only stat where we were really obviously worse was on stopping the run.

Enjoy.

love the effort but i do not put much emphasis on pre season stats.  Many of the guys that contributed to these numbers are no longer on the teams and/or will not be in a featured roll this Sunday.

Just my opinion. Hope we stomp them.

Preseason stats tell us more about how the team will be coached. Our preseason stats indicate an emphasis on running and things look good so far. Our o line is doing its job so we should be run heavy this year. I'd just ask Shula to give Cam more designed runs due to the fact he seems to throw better after he has scampered a bit. Probably gets the jitters out for him. JMO
