This Corey Brown Hate-Fest Is Asinine

One preseason game remaining and the season around the corner. How much improvement can you expect in this short window of time. If anyone is expecting miracles when the bullets start flying for real, you may be in for a disappointment.

Can't blame the coaching staff on their trying to harness the potential they see. When he held on to the ball as a returner he had some electric runs. He bulked up a little in the offseason which is good. The guy has talent but he has to learn not to shy away from defenders. Catch the ball and turn into the aggressor like Moose and Smitty did. Walter Payton would make defenders pay for even trying to tackle him.

The difference between a #1,2 or 3 WR or any offensive player is that aggressor attitude. It doesn't matter if you're 5'9" if you attack DBs after the catch you become 1st team material. If you shy away from contact you'll never be a great football player. Be the hammer Philly. UDFAs only get so many chances so you can't hold back. 1st catch the ball, 2nd run angry!

Not trying to hate on the guy, but Philly is built like stick, he's never going to be physical like Moose and Smitty were.

But that's not the biggest problem his biggest problem is holding on to the ball, he doesn't have great hands, why do you think the staff went away from Corey returning punts last year despite his Td return, and decided to put Bersin back there who had zero chance of returning one back.

They had to feel Bersin was more reliable fielding punts than Corey who had way more potential as a returner than Bersin, people seem to forget these things.

It's real simple. It doesn't matter how fast he can run. How well he runs routes. If he can't be trusted to consistently catch the ball he is not doing the job we need him to do. As a matter of fact, he's a liability. It's not like we're talking about an elite receiver that's in a slump. He's an undrafted guy that's confirming to everyone why he was an undrafted guy. We need a receiver to step up and get the job done. So far, Corey brown has not answered that call, and it's all on him and nobody else. I for one do not expect anything different from him going forward.

I can understand wanting Corey Brown to do well.  But, some Huddlers have really lowered their expectations, feeling the need to defend a guy that would hardly be a blip on another fan base's radar.

Hell,  guests to the Huddle just coming to get some general information about our preseason, or just general fan sentiment are probably  like "All this over Corey Brown?"

Then they go to their own virtual water coolers or real offices and relay their Information about what the best Panthers fan-based web site is discussing and their colleagues are like,  "Who? "

Ultimately they are all chuckling, snickering and outright laughing at our expense.

I know that it had been a long time, and I really can't blame you for suffering from some type of post traumatic stress from all these years of lack at the position,  but...damn,  some of you just need to snap out of it and raise your expectations. The future and stability of our receiving corps does not rise and fall with Corey Brown.

Gettleman has got this and if he thinks he can upgrade the position Brown will go down.

I'm sure this has been said but I just don't get why he has such a long leash? He wasn't a first round pick and although he showed flashes last year, it's not like he appeared to be a savior for us. Is he guaranteed a spot solely because he was on the team for one season and caught a few passes? If there was ANY other wide receiver that was fighting for a roster spot (so they are not named Ginn, Funchess, and Norwood), I have a hard time believing they would stand any chance of making the squad based on performance so far. It boggles my mind that this guy has a 'guaranteed' spot when he really hasn't shown anything to prove he is worth it. A few go-route TD's last year does not prove you belong. He needed to prove last year was not a fluke and he has done just the opposite. I'm almost ready to say Byrd is a clone of Brown last year and has at least shown he can hold onto a punt so why not give him the job?

With that said, I'm not going to give up on him yet. Hopefully he has a case of the yips and he can restore some confidence tonight.

Did he run a great route or was it play design ??

Has to be route running since everyone knows that Proehl is a genius and Shula is clueless. Let's ignore all the pick and rub plays we used to spring receivers or the  reverses and gadget plays. Classic huddle speak:

if it goes well it is due to the players great execution. If it goes poorly it is not due to players poor execution but poor coaching and play design.

Yeah, can a guy change his mindset? It's up to him, so I'd never say never. Likely, maybe not. Impossible? No.

so people want to use his rookie stats as their argument?  Not to mention he didnt line up as WR the first two games, then he missed four more games due to injury.

most importantly, Cam had confidence in him late in the season.

back to the lazy stat argument, anyone care to share Smitty's rookie stat line?

yes the drops are a huge issue, but no one was complaining about his drops prior to the last two games.
