J.Jones: Four players are on the roster bubble, need to play well

Jonathan Jones is reporting that four players are on the bubble. Corey Brown, Lou Young, Brandon Williams and Ben Jacobs need to have some meaning in this "meaningless" game.  One thing that caught my eye, and basically buttresses the opinion that Jeremy tried to point out to some of you hard heads this week is that the Panthers are indeed on the prowl for another receiver.

A team source indicated this week that, despite already trading for Kevin Norwood, the Panthers will be watching the waiver wire closing this week for another receiver.

Now go ahead and post threads to the effect that Gettleman is crazy and going around like Chicken Little for dare thinking that there may be a receiver worth picking up once all the cuts are said and done.

I don't see Gettleman going Chicken Little.

I do see several people on here doing it if he either keeps Corey Brown or goes after another receiver they haven't already heard of or discussed (or both).

Well, that's certainly not what I've said, and certainly not what I've seen.

If Brown isn't on the bubble, he should be.  He's been horrific through this preseason and lots of reports of drops in practice too.  This guy isn't a former top pick we have a lot invested in, he's a former undrafted free agent.  He has no special skills nor special size.  He doesn't contribute on special teams.

In short, he's a guy who absolutely SHOULD be on the bubble.  This fanbase way overrated his contributions last year.  He was a welcome surprise as a WR, but it wasn't like he set the world on fire.
