Opinions: trade with N.Y Giants for J.Jones

Look back to who was throwing him the ball last year. You have Nick Foles, who got injured last year and in comes Mark Sanchez. Going back to his 2013 campaign, the man had 835 yards for the season and 8 TDs with Nick Foles at the helm. Comparing that to Panthers own, Greg Olsen, he had 816 yards for the season and 6 TDs. I'm not saying he's the best WR on the block, all I'm saying he would be serviceable for this team. If he could be attained on the cheap, why not explore the option.

We already have Cotchery. To be honest, young James Jones was a B receiver (I'll give him a B), but old James Jones is a B- receiver tops, and we should be able to get those anywhere. At least with a young receiver we can at least fool ourselves that he has more upside than he really does.

Nevertheless, if he gets cut, maybe kick the tires. As far as I'm concerned a trade is completely out of the question.

Not sure why you felt this deserved its own thread. I mentioned James Jones as a possible cut candidate last week but he had a good game against the Jets and is expected to make the team now. Victor Cruz is also nursing a calf injury so until he gets healthy I don't see the Giants dealing Jones or Randle. Randle being in a contract year would be a good trade target if Cruz wasn't hurt.

Everyone check with this guy before you post any new topics. Apparently he's the topic monitor.

I've been reading reports throughout the web about Eagles WR, Riley Cooper. Some reports have been saying that he has been quiet this off season and had a lack luster year in 2014. The man is 27, 6'4" 230 lbs and is going into his 6th season. I'm not saying he can replace KB, but I believe he could be a serviceable WR for us this year and would provide Cam with another tall red zone option. I've been reading rumors around the web that the Eagles might explore a trade for Cooper, because Kelly is using his younger WRs.

What are the thoughts of a trade for Riley Cooper?

Rather not have a racist on my team

The irony here is that if we traded Klein or Mayo for James Jones and god forbid one of our starting linebackers got hurt, the huddle would implode and bitch endlessly about how Gettleman is an awful GM and dug himself into a hole because he didn't have the foresight to have more linebacker depth.

I would rather trade for Riley Curry. She can entertain the fans during halftime and during her epic post game interviews.

    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
    • Well, we got our answer on Army today.
    • Not a chance the SEC could compete with the NFL.  In the large cities that are not in the Southeast, (LA, NYC, Chicago, SF) College football is an afterthought.
