Panthers cut Jarrett Boykin

I'm so glad we cut a guy from a better  offensive system so I can watch Bersin choke catastrophically at some point during a prime time game again. Maybe when we lay down for the Cowboys like we do every time it'll be because he batted a pass in the air and someone returned it for a TD this time.

I hope this doesn't happen, but.....

Helps for comp pick and he may still be available once the season starts. Kind of make sense.

stop making sense! its too much for these people!

Writing has been on the wall, Norwood only sealed it. The overreactions are funny when you consider that we're arguing over a couple former UDFA receivers whose ceilings are being 4th receivers. Boykin did nothing in that role in Green Bay last year, Bersin did a little in Carolina.

And we always talk about Cam not having the same targets to grow with year to year, yet people want to cut the guy with whom he's played with for 4 years over someone that's been here like 2 months.

haha this^

also, Norwood supposedly has a penchant for doubling back to the ball when a play breaks down. i did not see Boykin do that once. couple that with the fact that he obviously had no chemistry with Cam since he didnt catch a pass from Cam all preseason, and its no surprise he is out the door.

its really tempting to panic when you see a WR catching passes from your backup quarterback, thinking the WR would do the same thing with your starter, and then the WR gets cut. but i am no armchair GM. this front office has proven that they know how to build a strong roster and the only reason everyone is panicking is because they dont agree with this move. You all have pretty much agreed with the moves made up to this point, why the sudden distrust?

and all y'all who act like you know better than the GM of the team, who spends time in practice with the players and has a stellar scouting background, you all make me laugh and shake my head. youre no better than bandwagon fans, or those fans that still think Deangelo Williams is on the roster.

you people have a choice as a "fan" of a team: 1) get pissy about things you have no control over and essentially no hands-on knowledge about and wallow in misery, or 2) accept that you have no control over it and cheer just as hard come September 13th no matter who is spit wide on the field.

are you a fan or not? if you are, get over yourself and support your damn team. if you cant do that when you dont agree with the decisions of management, then you are no fan.

Sometimes I think people log on here just looking for reasons to panic / implode.

you got that right. jesus i have enough stress in my own life. i use football as an escape, not an outlet. i cant afford to freak out about what the Panthers are doing when i am a senior in college trying to find a job and pay off my debt, all while maintaining some form of social life.

I've posted this in the Panthers Cut thread as well, so apologies for double posting, but it fits here too:

OK, to add fuel to the fire re: the concern of cutting Boykin, I hadn't realized, but he was leading the WR pack in receptions & yards in the pre-season games.  But not in reception percentage.  On another thread someone said these were not all "catchable" targets.  I don't have that data... I'm just going by what the Panthers gamebooks say re: targets:

Corrected - I deleted the "longest" column as I mistakenly had totaled the figures for a number of players.  Not my best day in terms of spreadsheets...

Voth just confirmed Boykin has been cut...

Dumb. Boykin>Bersin

Keep in mind that there's no guarantee Bersin will stay either. Sometimes teams will cut a guy, who they know they will cut, early to give him a chance to sign elsewhere. If/when Bersin is cut, he's not landing with another team.

Why are the games played blank for some?

For several players (especially RBs) I wasn't sure if they had played or if they just had no receiving targets.  Some were only listed in the reception stats for 1 game, but I think they played multiple games... So it seemed best to leave it blank until I could check.

Didn't seem like they ever liked him. As far as I could tell, he seemed to keep pace with other receivers in camp (not saying much) and outperform them in preseason playing scrubs, but he never got the chance to play solid competition. Oh well. I liked the guy.
