OK, here are the stats on receptions in the first 3 season games.  Boykin did have the most yards, yet he also had the most targets.  Other receivers had a higher reception %:

Give us catchable targets. I don't even need to go back to the Miami game where Boykin saw 12 targets to know they weren't all catchable.

I'm surprised L'Damian Washington hasn't caught on anywhere. I really enjoyed his game at Mizzou. Great size with solid speed and ran good routes for us. He started opposite Dorial Green-Beckham.

He had a slender frame, so maybe he gets bullied off the line, but I wouldn't mind giving him a look here, at least on the practice squad.

He was a more impactful player for the Tigers than Marcus Lucas was.

sorry, I don't have that data.  I'm just pulling the data from the gamebooks posted online by the Panthers.

By the way, ignore the average column.  Somehow I ended up with totals of each games average per player there instead of the correct average.  I'm about to correct it above.

Moore isn't a possession receiver.

That was his player profile coming into the league.

"OVERVIEW
Moore has the height, hands, and mentality to develop into a quality backup possession-type receiver in the NFL. However, at this time still needs to put on some more weight and would really benefit from gaining a step of initial quickness. Takes too long to reach top speed and will struggle to gain separation on underneath patterns. Is tough and productive making catches over the middle. Has the length, ball skills and top-end speed to potentially make some plays vertically. Flashes the ability to be a good run blocker and needs to be a little more nasty." http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/denarius-moore?id=2495315

I posted a list of all the WRs who have been cut so far on the Other Team's Cuts thread just before it was locked.  In case it's helpful, I'll repost that here. I'll update it again later today once final cuts are in.

***

I thought it might be helpful to recap all the WRs cut so far.  Obviously cuts are not final.  Teams that are not listed have not yet announced any cuts.  For teams that are listed, some will still be making additional cuts.

In bold are players with NFL game experience.  Red bold indicates players who are 6'3 or above.

* = Draft pick round 4 or lower.  ** = Draft pick round 3 or higher.

Tampa Bay:   None

Tennessee:

WR Tebucky Jones, 22, Rookie, 6'2, Fordham

WR Deon Long 24, rookie, 6'0, Maryland

Washington:

WR Tony Jones 23, rookie, 5'11, Northwestern

Wait, is there ANOTHER Tebucky Jones??!!!?

Bucs released Robert Herron. He was one of my jewels in the '14 draft. If Getts is content looking for gems vs. veterans, wouldn't mind kicking the tires on Herron.

Still prefer Moore, Thompkins and/or any other non-rookie/project WR right now. We may have to wait to final cuts for him, but there's a good chance that one or two get cut.

I like Herron too, do you remember if we scouted him last year? I know he is small and that may get him marked off Dave's list

Reception percentage means nothing in the grand scheme of things if the receiver is not getting "catchable" balls. It's the drop percentage that is most important.

That doesn't mean that it's a useless stat though.

No it doesn't mean that it's useless, but it does mean that you have to take it with a grain of salt and put it into context.  Some notable receivers last year had reception percentages around 50 percent like V-Jax, Sammy Watkins, and Martavis Bryant and John Brown to name a few. Sure, it can speak to chemistry with the QB (or QBs in some cases), perhaps the type of route run, or whatever. All I am saying is that drop rate is much more important as it is solely a reflection on the receiver.

    • Seems that Morgan and company really went heavy towards guys good against the run. In other words, targeting our biggest weakness in a league where pounding the rock is back in fashion. At least conceptually, these are sound moves. Really comes down to Evero being able to do something with all these pieces. We'll absolutely improve but by how much is up in the air. Worth noting this should help our offense by simply getting more opportunities to have the ball. Last season, we were the second worst in TOP, not good when it lacked explosive playmakers.
    • I don’t see what’s to like TBH. As someone posted about, spending in FA is easy. IOL was a problem because we ignored it in the draft, and we have solved (barring injury, depth is suspect) 2/3 of it with the 3rd highest paid RG and 9th highest paid LG. When you have the highest paid guard tandem, they better be good. Spending money on DL is obvious to do. Just like OL, that’s our weakness now. He’s done nothing special yet. Overspending is easy to do. Signing a Reddick or Luvu where your result is a great value, that’s special. Our 2024 draft has been very rough outside of Coker. Pick 8 and 57 better hit hard because signing FAs to be your core guys never works. The great team sign a FA or two to fill spots and use the bulk of their cap to extend their great draft picks.
