Despite recent trade, Panthers still in need of receiver help

Maybe instead of scraping the bottom of the bin for a WR that won't do anything anyway, we could find a really solid TE that maybe hasn't worked out for his current team, doesn't make ridiculous money moving forward, could be had for a hell of a lot cheaper, or maybe is an aging vet that still has something left in the tank (ala Shockey). We could run mostly twin TE sets, and the WR's would no longer need to be a focal point.

Not even sure if there is such a player out there but it's worth a look I suppose.

Ginn is a 6 on most teams and our 1.  So we out definition of finding a 2 or 3.....is basically finding a good 4 or 5.

stacked teams will part with someone who won't play for a price.   Our talent is so bad that a upgrade for our 2 or 3 spot doesn't mean we actually try to get someone else's 2 or 3

most teams that lose their top two talents at WR would be fuged.

i don't get this. We had complimentary players for KB and a very talented 2nd round pick working his way up. You take complimentary players, like every team has, and force thrown into roles they are not built for and obviously this is what happens. Please name me one team this wouldn't happen to. I'll wait.

there isn't going to be anything out there and I doubt DG will take over 10+ million a season contract. The only name if be interested in is Michael Floyd. Especially when KB and Funch get healthy. That trio would be deadly.

what NFL team drafts a 2nd round WR and thinks his rookie year he is a legit starting 2? I mean your scenario isn't what has actually occurred

issue is our WR corp has been comical for years.  Take out the #1 for most teams and suddenly they don't have the dumpster fire we do....

also I'll throw this out...a year off of football could be very bad for KB.   Gotta keep that in mind for at least the 2016-2017 season

I have read every comment thus far, and one thing that I believe that many (not all) people are failing to realize is the degree to which our receiving corps is constituted with JAGs. Sure it's highly unlikely that we're going to find a WR1 in the cuts post preseason in 2015. I am not going to use the word "myth" because anything is possible even if it is highly unlikely. That aside, for something to be a "myth" it has to be believed, and I don't think that anyone believes that we are going to find a WR1 in the group, nor have I seen anyone say anything to this effect.  What I do believe, obviously contrary to others, is that there will more than likely be receivers cut who will improve our receiving corps, and I certainly believe that there are receivers that are WR3s and possibly WR4s on other teams that would immediately be better than anyone we can offer up at the time. Now whether or not we should or would trade for a higher quality of receiver is a different story.

The notion that a loads of other teams out there are so stacked at receiver that they'll surely part with one that'd instantly upgrade our passing game is pretty much a myth.

But there could be teams that absolutely tank this season willing to part with a high-priced veteran WR.  If Carolina can start strong, what's to say a team that is struggling by Week 5 wouldn't be willing to make a trade?  Vincent Jackson???

If cam takes his passing game to the next level with the time the line is giving him can he make our recivers look like ones and twos?  Sorta the way other elite qbs make recivers look?  granted they need to catch the football.  Is it asking too much?  Trying to look at the situation from another angle.

Or wishful thinking?

there are decent vet WRs that often get let go for youth movements.  Issue is the team often is parting bc of their contract....which would make a trade tough.

So so maybe that vet would be the 3rd best WR on a stacked roster and they feel comfortable going ahead and getting young.

Heck, Ginn is a 6th WR on most teams and ultimately is he the clear cut 1 here....so given that we easily could find a 2 in "our world".   So we could easily find a 2 if we wanted it bad enough...a Panther 2 is basically someone else's 4.

Please name some so we can keep track.

buffalo bills:

sammy watkins and percy harvin go down they have marcus thigpen, robert woods and marcus easley

miami dolphins:

kenny stills and jarvis landry go down they have greg jennings and a rookie devante parker

New England Patriots:

brandon lafell and amendola go down they have Julian "snapchat" edleman and reggie wayne (to this point)

New York Jets:

Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker go down they have a rookie devon smith and i don't even know any of those other players

Baltimore Ravens:

Steve Smith and Breshad perriman (a rookie) go down and they have a bunch of no names

Cincinatti Bengals:

this maybe one of the very very few teams (including the Colts) that could survive if their top 2 AJ green and Sanu went down with brandon tate, greg little and marvin jones that still very iffy.

Do i need to continue? Look around the league there are scrubs after the first two with some players who need more development a la Funchess. We had KB and greg olsen who is for all intensive purposes another WR for Cam with his 1k season and 6 TDs much like Gronk is for the Patriots.

Look at depth charts of other teams after their first two talents. Its a bunch of has been veterans and JAG's and rookies who need more development. We have Cotchery, Tedd Ginn and some UDFA's. This is very much like other teams depth charts.

If say for instance Larry Fitzgerald and Michael Floyd went down for the cardinals. Do you think John Brown could fill that #1 receiver role? Look at the rest of their depth chart. Do you think any of those guys could fill in those #1 and #2's roles? The only 2 teams i can see that could maybe survive are the Colts and Cinci and that's still iffy.

We were very solid with KB and Olsen and Funch developing over the season with complimentary players like Ginn and Cotchery. You can't ask those complimentary players to be more than they are and if you look across the league at other depth charts you would be looking at the same thing.

Also saying something like Ginn is a #6 on any other team is taking things out of context as well as being disingenuous. I want the best for Cam and i feel terrible for him. But you are making poo up.

Too much logic. Not enough panic.

    • I think it will be hard to not go edge in the second if we go QB first. Say you have Starks, one of Bond/Egbuka, and maybe one Edge (don't have a name to throw out that is end of 1st round projected and may slide)... do you still go Starks? Just curious. I haven't looked into starks much, as I've been focused on QB, WR, and DL prospects.
