Looks like Panthers have signed WR Kevin Norwood

6-2/200 and a 4.4. 40 are horrible measureables?

I wasn't specifically referring to Norwood, I was referring to our general philosophy at WR.  Also, in Norwood's case, his measureables weren't bad, but it clearly hasn't translated to on field production.  He's fast in shorts, but all the scouting reports out there illustrate his athleticism doesn't translate.

No, my complaint is why trade ANYTHING for a guy who sucks, when we can just sign a guy that sucks?

IMO, there are guys available that are better with more potential than Norwood.  Obviously, I'm not an NFL front office executive, but I trust my eyes and there are guys who can play available and we just continue to turn a blind eye to them as if they don't exist.  And what if we sign a guy like Moore off the street and he comes in and sucks too?  What's the difference?  One guy you're giving up a pick for so he can suck, one guy can be signed without giving anything up and has past production and better potential athletically.

Why do you assume he sucks? He's a 4th round pick from last year taken around the same time Tre was. If he can make contributions like Tre did last season (granted, he wasnt perfect, but he made some plays) would you not take that for this receiving group?

The reason we make the trade is because we are too far down the waiver wire to pick him up when he gets released. And again, if he sucks, we give up nothing and it's like it never happened.

Here's an excerpt of that article:

The bigger news, however, was that Seattle was able to trade wideout Kevin Norwood rather than releasing him, as the club had initially planned.

A fourth round pick out of Alabama in 2014, Norwood had been passed on Seattle's depth chart by similarly-built wideouts Chris Matthews, Kevin Smith and Kasen Williams and was set to be among the 15 players the Seahawks were going to officially release tomorrow.

Norwood, in fact, was informed of his pending release Monday morning. Several NFL teams demonstrated interest in Norwood in the hours after news broke of his pending release and therefore the team did not officially cut him in the hopes of sparking a trade.

Aaron Wilson first broke news of the Panthers' trade for Norwood and a source inside VMAC quickly confirmed to SeahawkFootball.com that the transaction had occurred. The Seahawks will receive a future draft pick if Norwood makes Carolina's roster. He's likely to do so as the Panthers have suffered significant injuries at the position recently with 2014 first round pick Kelvin Benjamin tearing his ACL and 2015 second round pick Devin Funchess struggling with a nagging hamstring injury.

Seattle could afford to move past Norwood with wide receiver emerging as arguably the team's deepest position throughout training camp.

Encouraging tweets from J Jones:

Just watched all of Norwood's targets from last season and this preseason. He caught everything that was catchable

Only 2 targets last year didn't connect: flea flicker batted by P Peterson and throw in traffic against GB in NFCCG.

Russell Wilson really only looked his way when he was in middle of the field, rarely along the sidelines.

Norwood's two catches this preseason came with backup QB and both were on slants.

Of course he's not the savior. And he's not a poor man's Kelvin. But throw a catchable ball his way and looks like he'll catch it

So he catches what he was thrown. Can't help it if Wilson didn't target him...

Let's bring a marginal, virtually unknown commodity into the fold at the last minute, with Shula as the OC.

I totally support this plan.

But that's what most of our receivers are to fans of other teams. Just because he may be unknown, doesn't mean he sucks. He played very well at Alabama, and was a 2nd round pick. Maybe the Seahawks didn't know how to use him and he needed  a chance somewhere else. There is LITERALLY no harm done in bringing him in and giving him a chance. So why complain?
