David Newton gives Cam a thumbs-up

For those of you who have gotten into a routine of slamming David Newton for taking pot-shots at Cam,  in his latest article on Newton,  he points out that Cam is doing a good job.

Sometimes you have to look beyond the numbers, and this is a good example. Newton has led the Panthers on only two touchdown drives in three preseason games. His quarterback rating of 77.2 isn’t what you might expect from a player who was made one of the top-five-paid quarterbacks in the NFL in June.

But consider, in Friday night’s dress rehearsal against the New England Patriots, Newton completed 17 of 28 passes for 160 yards. Not bad. Now consider there were five dropped passes, including four by wide receiver Corey Brown. The numbers go from not bad to very efficient. Two of those should have been touchdowns. The week before, Newton started 0-for-4 with an interception. Brown had two drops and tight end Greg Olsen took full responsibility for the pick.

Now that ESPN's Newton has a lot more clarity as a result of two drop-filled outings by wide-outs, hopefully everyone will realize what some of us have known all along,  which is that Cam takes more flack than he deserves.  For all his high passes that he heaves,  he still has made improvements this off-season befitting of his pay raise.

I was truly impressed with the changes that Cam made from preseason game 2 (throwing high to, like, everyone) to preseason game 3 (1 or 2 high throws that I can remember). Just that alone tells me he is constantly working on his craft & has matured a lot. Now, I'm not so sure about the mustache & beard but I could get used to it. :)

Why do I feel like DNewt never really has any insight in anything he says. Its like he comes to the huddle, goes through the best post and copies and pastes them in an editorial.

He's the last to say the most obvious things.

Where's Pat Yasinskas when I need him?

In all fairness in regards to that last paragraph, a lot of people speak about the talent at WR when it comes to Cam and his play. It's the reason why once KB went down, we've been completely dismissed.

True dat! But it seems like a good representation here on the Huddle have been unconditionally dismissive of what I believe were obvious concerns at WR.  I guess a persistent hammy and consistent drops are finally making people here finally come to their senses. It's damned near asinine to try and say that Cam's lack of legit weapons is not affecting his performance and overall success of the team now.
