As Breakable as Funyuns (Funchess) injures leg in practice again

A bit more of an update on Funchess and other injuries from BBR.

http://blackandbluereview.com/despite-new-injury-panthers-still-hope-charles-johnson-plays/

A lot of the article is about Charles Johnson. Here's an excerpt focusing on Funch & Cotch:

Rivera also mentioned defensive tackle Kawann Short, who sat out the first three games after dealing with back spasms, as a starter who could play against the Steelers.

Also, receiver Devin Funchess said, “If I’m practicing, I’m going to play.” That was after the rookie appeared to tweak his troublesome right hamstring during a 7-on-7 drill early in practice.

“We were getting a lot of reps. It might have just been tight, I don’t know what it was,” Funchess said before admitting, “You get frustrated. You come back feeling good and then it comes right back to you.”

Rivera did have one piece of good news on a day that didn’t have much. He said the groin injury Jerricho Cotchery suffered Friday night against the Patriots is “just a tweak” and the veteran receiver is expected to play in Week 1.

In reality, he wasn't going to be producing like KB. We still have Olsen, Cotchery, Bersin, Brown, Ginn, Boykin. They would have to do for now, Funchess is not reliable at this moment in time.

IF you do a trade, I'm not sure there would be anyone better, and for a mid round draft pick. I hate to say it but Stephen Hill would have been nice to have even if he isn't as great. This situation is getting worse by the day.

Looked up Randy and he already plays for Carolina.

Look to right and should see pic of him and it reads under pic he plays here if so GREAT!!!!

Perfect fit for a whole bunch of reasons.  He lives here and coaches at high school here and he and Cam are friends.

Heres hoping it comes into being.

Why is everyone flipping out?  My lord.  The title is misleading.  Calling him fragile implies that he took a hit and got hurt.  A tight hamstring has nothing to do with being fragile.  He needs to stretch and rest.  In the Star thread everyone is OK with resting him until Week 8 because of a hurt foot, yet Funchess sitting out to take precaution against risking injury gets him labeled fragile?  You guys are flipping out like we lost him for the year.

Ok, I plead guilty.  I called him injury prone. That's not accurate perhaps.  I think it's just frustration, not panic.  With Kelvin's injury, (and Hill's) and Brown's serious case of dropsies we're looking seriously weak at WR.

With Star at least we've seen strong backup play - Edwards, Cole, Love... the depth is there.  AND we know what Star's play is like, we're confident he can step in and play.

Funchess being a rookie is what makes his lack of play time so difficult.  We want to see what we have in him, especially with Kelvin out.  So every absence or tweak that may keep him from playing is magnified.  And Cotch's injury, though apparently minor, just puts everyone even more on edge as it reveals the very scary lack of depth we now have at this position.

<joke>G-Man and Riverboat playing the ultimate troll game on all of us.  With KB going down, teams know all we really have is Funchess.  What better way to keep everyone in the dark about his Pro-Bowl talent than to feign injury and not play him in pre season games? All that just to unleash him for the regular season.!!!?!?!?!</joke>

if you take the top two talented WR off any team you would be looking at people who cannot do the job that those WR do. They will be considered scrubs if they aren't in there natural positions just like ours are now.

That said we need something. Don't know what DG is going to do but i hope we get someone. Otherwise Cam is going to tuck and run more which will open him up to more injuries. This is definitely panic mode.

Silly man. Dont you realize all the other teams in the NFL are three deep with starting quality players at every position?

We're the only team in the league that suffers a drop off when starters get injured! And it's all because this team just doesn't care about winning.

    • BB building a NFL caliber program. We training entirely different. The guys we had this year will be stronger, smarter, faster. The transfers are coming.    Im more worried about the QB position. We have to hit on that guy.
    • https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/3162765/report-forsberg-vejmelka-vladar-on-hurricanes-radar The Carolina Hurricanes are eyeing a trio of goaltenders to fortify their depth between the pipes. Ottawa's Anton Forsberg, Utah's Karel Vejmelka, and Calgary's Dan Vladar are on Carolina's radar, reports The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun. However, none of those teams are in sell mode yet and might not be at all depending on how their seasons go, LeBrun notes. All three goalies are pending unrestricted free agents. Forsberg has posted an .889 save percentage in 11 games with the Senators this campaign as Linus Ullmark's backup. The 32-year-old journeyman previously spent time in Raleigh during in 2019-20. Vejmelka has emerged as Utah's starter this season, registering a sparkling .915 save percentage in 17 appearances. Vladar has struggled with an .885 save percentage in 16 games while sharing the Flames' crease with Dustin Wolf. The Canes also reportedly spoke to the Anaheim Ducks about John Gibson after missing out on Mackenzie Blackwood, who was dealt to the Colorado Avalanche on Dec. 9. Pyotr Kochetkov has struggled with an .895 save percentage in 18 games as Carolina's No. 1 goalie this season. Veteran netminder Frederik Andersen hasn't played since October and was given an eight-week timeline after undergoing knee surgery in late November.
    • I haven’t seen him play, but if he doesn’t get separation and he’s slow, that doesn’t sound like a top 5 WR
