How Elite is this defense going to be?

Recommended Posts

A valid pointtThe offenill neHAS to hapo string together some first downs and long drives to give the D a break. Some points on the board would be nice, too, though 17 or 21 may be enough. I like what I've seen lately out of Ealy, but I'd like to see it on a regular basis.

this team wasn't great and getting and maintaining a lead last year. Hence KB's garbage stats while behind 10 or more.

this team either needs a fast start each game or lead going into the 4th. Ball control in the 2nd half with be the make or break stat this year.

3 fgs and 2 tds a gameHAS to happen. OOtherwise we go 5-11.

Shocked there isn't more enthusiasm about this D. If we can stay healthy this can be a top 5 D this year. Kony Ealy or Harper will be the weakest link. Everyone else looks damn good. The front 7 would be in consideration for the best in the league if we still had Hardy and still might be Ealy steps up. Tillman is a gigantic upgrade and Norman is only getting better. Also appears that Coleman is better than Boston. Most importantly is Shaq looking like an absolute stud and much better than the Klein/Blackburn rotation last year.

This D will be much improved from last year. Offense is going to be much better too. Our o-line still has plenty of room for improvement and we took a step back with loss of Benjamin, however Bell and Chandler are no longer starting!! Plus lets not sleep on Funchess. He looked legit in the limited action he's seen thus far.

The bottom line is that our defense late last season was elite. Only the Seahawks played better. All we've done is improve it since then.

Ealy is looking very good this preseason and our young secondary will only get better as they gain experience.

Overall, I think our defense will be even better than it was in the 2013 season

Top 5. Our biggest weaknesses are Harper at FS, and Ealy at RDE. As long as we switch Harper out for Boston in obvious passing situations and keep Ealy fresh by rotating in Horton and Addison, I don't see any weaknesses.

I completely agree. I fully expect Harper to get less playing time this season, and he's actually pretty decent against the run.

I also really like what I've seen out of Ealy this preseason, and he was good towards the end of last year. It's definitely encouraging.

Man I'm glad I watched some of these games or you would think we are gonna go 0-16 this year.  With us giving up 80 yard rushes all day.   Offense cant score or sustain drives.   Hey who can we get with the first over all pic next year.  Glad all the sky is falling guys made it over from PI.

For the first time in forever it looks like our secondary won't be the liability. Peanut, Norman and Benwikere are a great trio, and our safeties look decent at worst. Our linebacking corps should be better than ever if Shaq lives up to hype. Defensive end is definitely the liability. Charles Johnson is always solid, but Kony Ealy - now that he is the starter - needs to step up. I liked what I saw from him towards the end of last year and in the last few preseason games, but we still have a Hardy-sized hole there.

THIS^^^ So much doubt drives me crazy.  Ealy looks to be one stepping up to take the DE position opposite of CJ.  Shaq looks to be a MAJOR upgrade on a stout LB corps.  Tillman, Norman and Benewikere are going to be awesome.  I see Harper having a great season because he'll have great talent in front of him.  The Coleman addition is the spunk that made us awesome in 2013.

I see us with a better defense than we had in 2013.   Sure if injuries hit us that could all go down the tubes but that is with any defense.

I think this defense could be one of the best ever during this era of football.  Will they top the best scoring defense ever, probably not but in this era they might.

I believe Rivera and Gettleman have built a defense to defend the high flying offenses of the NFL.  I don't think the butt whooping we put on N.O. and Atlanta was a fluke last year.  If this defense plays up to their abilities and plays as a unit.  This is going to be a special year.

As far as the naysayers.   They are the same ones that think we'll go 9-7 or 8-8 every year.
