also for all the talk about "weapons" andrew luck was still one of the most hit quarterbacks in the league in '12 and '13.  in fact i think andre johnson is the first big name free agent wideout they've brought in if you don't count nicks or DHB who both flopped in indianapolis.  moncrief and hilton were both draft picks.

wanna know something funny though?  the panthers have drafted one less wide receiver in the first three rounds than the colts have since 2012.

The quote you love to drag out every time you argue your point?  The quote in your OP?

Its made up.

Imaginary.

Maybe YOU should be more careful in what you say?

you're right...  completely imaginary and fabricated.  I made it up myself because I detest Dave Gettleman.  You got me.  Only...

http://espn.go.com/blog/carolina-panthers/post/_/id/14493/panthers-gm-dave-gettleman-on-de-position-michael-oher-kelvin-benjamin

You didn't address the defensive end spot opposite Charles Johnson during the offseason. Do you think the answer is on the roster (Kony Ealy, Frank Alexander, Mario Addison and Wes Horton)?

Gettleman: Yeah, I do. It's funny, when the year ended everybody talked about how we've got no pass rush. We did an analysis on it. Two years ago, when we had the 60 sacks, 37 came from the D-line. Last year we dropped down to 41 and 34 came from the D-line. So you only had a drop of three. The big drop was in the secondary.

So yeah, you might want to stop now, or just come up with another ill-fated decoy of an argument to avoid discussing the actual concern expressed in the OP.

No, but aapparently you do enjoy the idea of throwing money at mediocre receivers.

Most of those guys have low cap hits because they're not worth much.

Scot, that response is myopic at best. There is some notable value and upside on that list---certainly receivers that would have helped us out. Anyone who doesn't see it is just blind, or more interested in making a point than being analytical about the situation.

We were the 1st organization in the NFL to sign a #1 overall pick in the Rookie salary cap era. And, we got a complete stud to boot in Cam Newton. Lucky us. However, we've wasted 4 years with a Pro Bowl level QB at a severely discounted cap rate. The Carolina Panthers failed to capitalize.

Now we have to try and compete with Cam making the going rate.

Get busy Getts, no excuses.

Remind me how many the Colts wasted till they got to a SB?

Never said any of that.  I've repeatedly used the word "neglect," when referring to our lack of attention to Cam's weapons.  WHOOOOOOOA!!!  EXPONENTIAL HYPERBOLE OVERLOADDDDDD!!!  I couldn't have picked a more inflammatory and derogatory term!

What area in particular would you have had Gettleman neglect in order to load up the team with quality WRs, a la the Atlanta Falcons successful plan?

Oh, I see... I didn't know you were talking about defensive ends.

I never even realized Benjamin and Funchess played defensive end.

Actually, it's more the "screaming that the whole offense is bad when it's primarily one guy having an awful night" kind of stupid.

And I'm sure our Pro Bowl center sitting out likewise meant nothing.

When "one guy" does what he did tonight (and the game before that, and throughout camp), you start to wonder how he ended up being put in that position in the first place?  There you will find the stupidity you are looking for.

Or maybe you can actually address the stupidity in blaming injured defensive lineman for an inept offense?  Because you still haven't.

Also, nice point about the center, which brings us full circle...  Seeing how Williams has played thus far, and how Remmers has looked at center, why is Folkerts in that position?  See the parallels?  Remember how Rivera was almost fired two seasons ago, and as a result replaced numerous players who had been "awarded" their positions without true competition, much like all of our receivers outside of KB, guys like Folkerts, etc.

Now get your notepad, because this is where we tie it all together...  The "reactionary" nature of this thread, is a result of frustration after seeing the current regime award players roster spots and playing time that is undeserved because they are essentially given it without appropriate competition.  That approach is why Cam, after losing his #1, is stuck throwing to career #4 receivers, and that same attitude permeates overly optimistic fans like yourself, into thinking anything better than the status quo is blasphemy.

You asked where the quote came from and insinuated it had nothing to do with Gettleman.

https://coldwarradio.files.wordpress.com/2015/01/mp1.jpg

The quote was then used here in the huddle by blind supporters of Gettleman anytime we neglected to address a need, such as WR.

Watch this now...  So, then, fans who were disappointed in the neglect of those needs, such as WR, began to use the quote associated with Gettleman, as a sort of ironic joke to excuse it.

See how that progressed?  I won't continue to entertain you if you want to purposely act that dull to avoid admitting you were wrong.  Again, feel free to Google it...  You wanted to know, I already do, so you go find it.  There are numerous articles attributing the quote to Gettleman and applying it to any and every position in question.

My friend, HAVE YOU SEEN what the Colts have done in the post season in 3 years with Andrew Luck?

Another great rookie QB a Franchise enjoys for years under the Rookie cap scale?

I'd say they've wasted no time making it count.

That's 3 straight 11-5 years they've enjoyed!

Our buddy with the long, ironic, often-changed screen name actually pretty much knocked that one out of the park a few posts back.
