Has anyone ever heard that "you're as strong as your weakest link? "

Interesting concept for our starting receiving corps tonight,  huh?

That's the problem that apparently doesn't exist, except for over reactionaries like ourselves that recognize it.

Also, Scot already said it isn't a valid point, so we should stop discussing it.

i'm on the boykin wagon, philly played bad this whole pre-season

i don't understand Rivera, i remember when David Gettis was busting peoples ass in pre-season but because he sucked in practice didn't get reps with the 1's,now philly is sucking it up in pre-season and continues to get reps????

to be honest if Rivera doesn't stop this bs soon i'll be convince we won't win a superbowl with him, you have to put your best players on the field........

Shula looks like such an idiot for intimating that Brown could emerge as the number 1 receiver in KB's absence.  Philly Brown has done absolutely nothing to prove that he is worthy of a roster spot,  much less that level of expectation.

I think that's why I feel so inflamed by it, because to me, he had to think we were idiots to believe that in the first place.

And that is the point at the core of this thread.  Every year, even the last two "successful" seasons, we weren't as successful as we should've been because Rivera gives away roster spots and playing time because he likes guys not for what they do, but who they are.  That's an admirable quality outside of professional football, but not within it.  Each of the last two seasons we lost games we shouldn't have, especially early, because Rivera played guys that didn't earn it and then eventually, he was forced to make those moves by extenuating circumstances out of his control.

We should make a move for a Patterson or a Michael Floyd.

Im still hopeful Funchess balls out. Dude is a miss match and much more of an elusive YAC guy than Benjamin.

I could deal with a Patterson move if they would take a 6th rounder or less.  But what has he proved in the NFL?  Two years in the NFL and he averages less than 40 catches per year, less than 500 yds receiving per year, and exactly 3 TD catches per year.  Why is he a solution?  What has he proven in the NFL that would "solve" the Panthers problem?

With regard to Michael Floyd, next year he's owed over $7 million in the final year of his contract.  Why in the world would you burden your team with that kind of outrageous number for an utterly average receiver?  And his numbers again = NFL mediocrity.

What would putting either players on this team mean other than "Gosh!  At least we're doing SOMETHING!"  The most likely result of either of these players is a waste of time and money, because that's what they've proven to be so far in their NFL career.

Now if the Vikings or Cardinals cut the guys?  That's a different story.  That's taking a shot with no risk or cost (a la our long, lost Stephen Hill).
