I feel like this team is one legitimate player away from being a top team and if we dont make a move to add that player, then it is a poor, neglectful decision by management.

i don't care if the thought of missing out on future edmund kugbilas and tyler gaffneys frightens you, give me a sure thing right now.

But, that's because they did the opposite extreme of what we have done...  All they did was build up their offenses and defense has remained their problem.  That's why I didn't use them as examples...  The teams I mentioned, year in and year out, address both sides of the ball and are typically formidable, if not GREAT in all three facets of the game.

Well, that is why we have signed and drafted several WRs over last couple of years.  None of those guys you posted earlier are really difference makers or even #2 WRs.

You act like Gettleman has ignored the position.  He hasn't.

You just seem upset we signed one average receiver instead of another average receiver

It's preseason, guys. I'm bummed about the offense too, but relax. We're purposefully cuffing ourselves. Like every team. You think the Pats offense will be that pedestrian in the regular season against anybody? Not a chance. Defense played VERY well though, especially considering who we had out. Bodes well.

Offense will pick up. Funchess will return and we'll have a threat. Brown will figure his crap out. He's in his own head, and I think it's the competition at WR that is getting to him. Last year, he and Bersin made the roster by default. Not that they're bad receivers (they're not). They just benefitted from a thin roster last year. All they had to do was go out and play with no fear for their job at that time. Brown knows that he's got Boykin nipping at a chance to make the 53. They're similar players who would play a similar role to one another. I want to believe Brown wants to make plays so badly that he's just overthinking and not reacting. How else do you explain him letting a ball hit him DIRECTLY between the numbers, AFTER letting a perfectly thrown ball go through his hands for what would have been a TD?

It's not just "relax". We havn't even seen Funchess get reps with Cam, Philly is dropping everything that comes his way, Boykin hasn't gotten reps with Cam, and our running game has been non-existent the whole preseason. If you think we can just turn all of this around once regular season hits in a Mike Shula offense, you are going to be disappointed. Luckily for us, we have a fairly easy schedule this year.

UDFAs are UDFAs for a reason.  Sometimes they turn those weaknesses into strengths but, more often than not, they don't.  I really lobbied for us to get Philly, even during the draft in the later rounds, but that was with the idea of him fighting for a roster spot, hopefully beating the odds, and having the time to develop...  Instead, we signed him and tried to force him into a bigger role than he was ready for.  Even in college, he had a bad habit of body catching...  Maybe his confidence carried him through last season and he just outperformed his true capabilities?  Or maybe he is better than that?  But, to me, it looks like he is who I thought he was - a scrapper at the bottom of the depth chart who will occasionally surprise you with big plays and can help out on ST.

Yeah tee, but that's a huge part of my frustration - our habit of putting the entire weight of the ability to score on Cam.  More weapons helps protect him as well.

Oh I agree with that.  Just saying we arent using all of our weapons that we do have in the redzone because it is preseason so we are protecting Cam and keeping most plays under wraps

Hopefully, if this Franchise has learned nothing else post Cam's miracle rookie campaign it's that he is not invincible.

And that he needs protection, then help.

FAs are usually FAs for a reason too.  Just saying.  Calvin Johnsons usually arent sitting out there with a manageable price tag

So you think that none of those guys listed are better than what we have?  I think that is being quite generous to our guys.  And I haven't said Gettleman has done nothing, I've said in comparison to the defensive side of the ball, he has neglected WR, and I'm mainly referring to supplementing it with bargain free agent signings.

I appreciate the things Gettleman has done so far, but the lack of serious efforts at improving WR is so blatant to me that it feels like an open wound, and every night we have like tonight, it's just pouring salt in it.

I also appreciate you as a poster Tee, so I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on his handling of the position, as I believe there have been viable, affordable options that without a doubt would have improved the position.

Scot, for someone who poses as rarely moved and posits himself as a football aficionado and elderstatesman of the huddle, you sure do like arguing in a childish manner because someone doesn't share you're exact same sentiments.

I don't have time for this poo.  I'm a grown man, I have no reason to lie, spin,or fabricate anything.  Anyone that has participated in this thread from page 1 saw you cited "injured defensive lineman" as a reason for our lackluster first half.  LOL, why would I make that up?  If you edited it out by now, oh well...  but you said it, and yet referred to me as "stupid," in your typical passive-aggressive, from-up-on-high manner, in talking around me.

It's whatever man.  My point is valid.  The offense is lackluster and they absolutely blew it in multiple possessions, leaving 21+ points on the field.  Our wide receiver unit is the weakest in the league and needs to be addressed, as that unit has that "one guy" who had that horrible performance tonight and singlehandedly killed multiple drives over the last two weeks.  It's a problem because our GM has not done more for the position and our coach doesn't challenge guys he likes.  That is the problem, and that is the complaint and concern at the core of this thread.

Also, what was the final score of that game?  Do you think those points our offense inexcusably failed to manufacture mattered?  And yet, our offense "made me look stupid," according to you lol.

Now, spin that anyway you want.

Ironic.

And no, your point was never valid.  You jumped off the bridge prematurely and now you're trying to defend it.  Can't help ya there.

To top it all off, you're seriously pointing to the final score of a preseason game as evidence of something?  Oy.

I swear.  You sound like a guy that would buy a Ferrari, then literally never drive it because you are scared you might wreck it
