verge of being cut and rightfully so........time to let other guys get a shot, we went through this song and dance last year with philly as far as punt returns, it's time to see things for what they are instead of waiting til he drops a game winning td

and that goes for any player at any position

I'm not going to lie, I felt really bad for the kid. We gave him Hell tonight (which he deserved), especially on that 3rd drop that was a go ahead TD.

Most folks noticed the sarcastic cheering when he held onto the ball... but what stuck out to me was after the dropped TD on 3rd down you could tell that something was eating at him (derp maybe it was the dropsies). Cam immediately gathered up Brown at the sideline and put his arm around him. He was giving Brown words of encouragement and reviewing the play. Corey put both or his hands over his facemask and tbh I got the impression that he had been on the verge of tears and finally leaked.

Immediately after Cam was done talking him up, TD was right behind him and did the same. Loved that he came down there to talk to Brown to et him know that defense would get him another opportunity and let Cam be the first one to talk to him as the leader of the offense.

reminds me of when the Oakland A's signed Jim Johnson to be their closer. Had a great year the year before with Baltimore and as a fan we lost Balfour but felt at least ok with JJ. Then he blew like 8 of his first 10 save opportunities and he got booed every time he took the field. At home.

Mae do dumb poo as fans but sometimes the frustration gets the better of you. But that's why we are fans.

Brown is slumping--it is all mental, but when your mechanics aren't good, it is hard to recover.  I LOVE the way the Panthers kept going to him.  However, I do not see him making the roster if we bring in a WR after cuts.

Since Monsta started using baseball to describe this, I will add that one of the most famous and weirdest slumps I have ever heard of was that of LA Dodger all-star second baseman Steve Sax.  His slump was not about hitting, however, it was about throwing.  He was making numerous throwing errors from second base to first base.  It was incredible--what is that, about 50-70 feet?  Demons can destroy an athlete.  However, Tommy Lasorda, Sax's manager, took him out to his position at second base one day before a game and said, "Steve, how many people in this world can earn a gold glove in the major leagues?"

Steve looked puzzled.  "Not many."

Tommy continued, "How many people can hit .280 off major league pitching?"

"Very Few"

Tommy then concluded, pointing at first base, some 65 feet away from the two men, "How many people in the world can throw a baseball from here to first base?"

Sax started laughing, "Probably all of them, except me."

Slump over.

the drops are mental and can be corrected (certain that Ricky Proehl is working his tail with him). What I liked though is that Corey is able to get seperation

I don't know if it is all mental...his catches last year didn't look good.

RE: If there is anyone besides Corey Brown that he wants to go with

“No, we are sticking with Corey. Guys, this is what the preseason is for. Again, as we go through it, we will watch it and study and see. How he handles the situation will tell us a lot about who he is as a football player. Again, it is about making plays and taking advantage of opportunities. Again, I believe he has what it takes and that he is going to go out and correct these things and make these plays.”

I did a search for 'Philly Brown catching the ball with his hands' and came up empty.

Seriously, his highlights from last season show him as a basket catcher, using his chest or gut (even his forearms) as a backstop for the ball. He didn't seem to be a 'hands receiver' at all. Yet his OSU highlights show that he can indeed make difficult catches with his hands. His problem seems to be either mental or a regression in his pass catching skills.

I defended Brown as well...not anymore.  It's all mental right now, and he can't shake it.  I feel for the guy, but as of now he doesn't deserve a spot on our roster.  With that being said, it wouldn't surprise me if he still makes the team.

I confess I've not read this whole thread.  Way too much written about Corey Brown in the past 24 hours.  My eyes are glazing over now...

But for those who want to review each of his targets in the preseason games, Voth has a really good analysis including GIFs of each play:  (Apologies if this has already been posted.)
