Now here is something that I absolutely knew nothing about. The Panthers use this GPS device called a Viper pod to measure all sorts of things pertaining to a player's performance.  If you're a geek, David Newton's article may be somewhat fascinating. 

Among the seemingly countless things the device registers are heart rate, acceleration and deceleration, the amount of load experienced on impact, the amount of force applied to one foot versus the other, fatigue level, how much ground is covered and how much of that was at peak performance versus a jog or walk.

I know that what I mostly think of in terms of technical devices and improvements in the game pertain to more external things like wireless headsets, tablets and tracking footballs. I never imagined that the players were running around with devices that tracked their every move.  

Who knows, maybe one day tech consultants will be able to help design plays based upon data? Just a thought. Shula, the mad scientist...

Been on this site multiple times since last season. 

The trainers remove the gps units after each practice. it stays on the back of their shoulder pads near the neck.  Pretty interesting stuff to see.

      People looking at the offense negatively need to step back a minute and remember that expectations were mighty low this year. We have a lot of young guys and rookies. And our qb is a newby in the system he is in with a new coach who has never been a head coach and signal caller combined.  This is a work in progress so only an approach which recognizes incremental improvement is valid for best measuring where we are versus  demanding immediate success after a 2-15 campaign last year.
