Shula: KB's void may be filled by committee, talks up CB

top dawg

Recommended Posts

Well, looks like it's going to be "What can Brown do for you?"

UPS retired that slogan by the way.

yeah but obviously Shula does not "love logistics".

so he went with an antiquated shipping motto to match his antiquated football philosophy.

(philosophy is a very strong word, it would akin more closely to kindergarten story time books than anything that would remotely resemble a modern offensive strategy)

Maybe i am wrong but i cant recall a route that brown ran where the CB wasn't  in his hip pocket. I mean with his speed he should have all this separation, where it should be a simple pitch and catch.

A good example of separation would be birds td grab last week

His speed is a bit overrated...remember AE was so damn fast bro.

Brown is like that guy whose "fast" until a WR whose actually fast joins the team....he also may very well look fast in shorts but in Pads I thought he wasn't all that. He does look faster than last year as I thought last year he looked AE type slow.

I really don't like how they are trying to shoe horn Corey Brown into such a bigger role. They should give Boykin and Bird a longer look.

Brown stepped up and performed better than anybodies expectations last season, and now you want to ignore that production, year in the system, and growth already seen for two players new to the system, and byrd isn't even close to what brown is right now.

I forget, this is the huddle where competition means nothing. It's all about a new kids until they disappoint you.

track speed vs football speed.

I think his track speed is better than game speed.

Well i will just say we have better options than brown on the roster right now. Last season was last season and to make a case for a guy in his second season because he flashed at the end last year is pointless.

He has had a offseason to work on his poo, yet still catching balls off his chest.

I think that everyone is intrigued by Brown's speed and sees him as a good slot receiver. Boykin and Bird don't bring anything unique from a skill point of view. On the other hand Boykin in particular has been making plays and looking like he could really contribute. Byrd is another really fast guy who could make the roster if he can show he can make the clutch catches. With the likelihood that we keep no more than 6 receivers, we won't have slots for guys who can't make plays every week. In the past we had little depth and had several developmental guys on the roster. We seem to be upgrading the talent to the point that even the depth players can come in without a huge drop off with the exception of a couple of all pros where anyone else on the roster would likely be a drop off.

What do you mean Byrd doesn't bring anything unique from a skill point of view?

Byrd has world class speed, can actually attack the ball at the point of contact with his hands,  and is a silky smooth route Runner to boot.  His biggest knock is his smaller size. He needs to get stronger and work on using his hands to get a better release off the line

Have you even studied some vids,  and read any scouting reports on the guy? He was kind of pigeon-holed into being a go-route guy that was one dimensional at SC,  but he has worked pretty hard (successfully IMHO) to dispel that notion during camp and OTAs.

BTW,  Boykin may not bring anything unique,  but he does bring something to the table that we need: a young,  tall,  strong guy that makes plays on special teams,  is largely a dependable catcher,  and who is an excellent down field blocker.

Byrd was signed because of his speed  and potential to be a slot receiver and possibly be used in the return game. But he really doesn't bring much to the table that Brown hasn't brought already. I have been a big supporter of Byrd and have talked up Boykin quite a bit. So I am just being realistic about Byrd and Boykin making the roster and being seen as better than who we already have. As for watching video of Byrd and Boykin I suspect I was one of the first to watch video on both of them. And not highlight reel material like most folks.

I don't know what it is but some times I try and reply to a post on my IPad and it gets totally screwed up with the quoted post and won't give me space underneath it to reply. I have tried to fix the above post but give up.

I got the same issues.  Almost exclusively post on iPad or iPhone and quoting gets crazy

Once @Jeremy Igo changed the forum vendor,  I started having a similar issue on KitKat.  Perhaps if you place the pointer near the bottom or top right of the text you will see a red box appear over the area with an arrow pointing left.  Hit the arrow (you might have to do it twice) and that makes the red box disappear and you will be able to actually edit the field how you want.

That's what works for me. Sometimes I have to do it above the field and below the field,  but most if the time,  just the bottom will suffice.  Knowing how things work,  it may not work for you Apple users.

Whatever it is,  it doesn't facilitate easy replying,  particularly when you make an error.
