Shula: KB's void may be filled by committee, talks up CB

top dawg

No. I think people were thinking more in line of what IGSaint said.

Edit: That and getting Lee Ward more first team looks as well (as Shula did mention Tolbert).

Why would they give Byrd anything over Brown? I dont understand you Boykin thing but at least that has some credibility.

The article specifically says "by committee" so I believe getting irked by mention of individuals after that is looking too hard for things to be irked by.

I would not even look at Funchess.

The Panthers receivers won't be scoring much this season other than the occasional long bomb to Ginn

Funchess is a nice flyer after Round 9...no earlier than that though...he will end up being the most consistent out of the bunch and that's all you can ask for that late...he could end up 800 yards and 5 or 6 TDs and you wouldn't be too angry about it after round 9...

Shula said "may be filled by committee", and also was quick to add that a guy may emerge in that WR1 role, all the while speaking sweet nothings about Corey Brown.

As for Boykin, if you don't see why a receiver who put up damn near 700 yards when he started for a piece of a season (while his QB1 was down for a good percentage of the time he started) would excite me more than Brown, than I don't know what to tell you. That doesn't even take into account that he is a better special teams player, a better hands catcher, and a better overall blocker (but particularly downfield).

As for Byrd, FreeFua said it in the other thread. Byrd looks like a smoother route runner and a better catcher than Brown.

No one has said that these guys are HOFERs, just that it would be nice to see them get some appreciable play with the first team.

So yeah, I'm frustrated.

I don't see the hate for Brown.  He came on strong at the end of last year and is a great find.  He isn't a one year wonder and given the opportunity he will shine.

Brown has that chip like Smitty did just not being a smart ass to go with it.

He has become a good route runner and with his speed that skill will open him up often.  I am not too worried about the drops.  (at least not now)

I think his odds of breaking out of the pack are as good as any other receiver we have on the roster.

This whole hate Brown thing is overblown. From what I've seen, Byrd looks more like Smitty than Brown does, and he's just as nice a kid.  Yeah, he's going against the twos and threes, but that's exactly why some want to see what he can do against the ones.

Not surprising coming form Shula...  If it was up to him, he would line up h-backs at WR every play.  fuging idiot.

We gonna replace KB by committee like we did for Smitty?  Our staff needs a reality check when it comes to WR.  Philly is not the answer.  PERIOD.

Dropping passes against 1's isn't better than catching TDs against 2s/3s...I don't get the Brown brown nosing...dood didn't come on strong at all...at least compared to the rest of the NFL's starting WRs or even 3rds...Coming on strong would be Martavis Bryant for example...26 catches 550 yards 8 TD....Brown was 21 300yards 2TD.

Pardon me while I yawn.
