Mike Shula not worried about slow starts

Here's an idea that I've never seen brought up here... Hire another "offensive assistant" like we did with Ramsdell before he retired and then promote him to play caller. Shula is a terrible play caller and situational coach but his philosophy and playbook is not the worst in the league. I don't want him here at all but I don't see him getting fired any time soon but we could relieve him of his play calling duties and Ron can still be happy that his boy still has the title "OC." Not all coordinators call the plays. Or just have Cam call every single play. Maybe he'll just be smart enough to do that anyways and audible out of literally every play.

I think that because Rivera is primarily a defensive minded Coach he is unfortunately satisfied with vanilla offensively. This is a complete waste of Cam Newton's talent. Proof of this are Rivera's comments last year stating that WR's only needed to make 10 more catches per game. He does not value the need for offensive production versus the defenses ability to stop or reduce the other team's production. Until Rivera values a more balanced approach that looks at offense being equally important I think that Mike Shula and his vanilla approach is here to stay.

That is actually the only part Shula gets right (some of the time anyways).  Sometimes you have to go against tendencies on 3rd down.  The defense knows you want to throw a short pass near the first down marker and will play accordingly.   I don't fault Shula for that.  I just think his overall philosophies are what is holding the offense back.

When you do it so much though it is the tendency. Also he calls the deep passes to Cotchery.

I remember those comments made by Rivera. He is just as clueless as Shula is.

This fool should be fired off of this interview alone. He basically admitted he doesn't want the to score points. How does he think we're going to win a game? It's ridiculous that he is still here with his wack ass play calling holding back the offense.

I agree wholeheartedly!  How can you NOT be worried about a a glaring deficiency in your offense???? And I would think that it's fixable, but he's not worried about it....
