Typical shula

1st down . Run up the middle

2nd down. Run up the middle

3rd down . Hail mary.

4th down. Punt

And Lets not forget on 3rd and long he runs and 3 and short he calls a deep pass

Shulas playbook.

edit: I just noticed that this playbook only has 9 players on it.  Now I know its legit.

Shula will be the downfall of Rivera.

In the end, Rivera's insistence on keeping Shula will be the downfall of Rivera.

I can't tell you how frustrating it was/is when we were only giving out a 1 year deal for an OC when we had just drafted a QB no. 1 overall...

this makes me want to punch a baby

^this. Shula would be told he will be walking after this season if i were Gettleman OR Rivera and read those words from his mouth. How the hell can you be a football coach and NOT want to score points on every drive? isnt that the paradox of the century or something?!

the only reason i wouldnt fire him immediately would be to maintain continuity of scheme for this season. it would screw our team more to try to learn a new offensive system in a few weeks than to retain Shula for one more season. though that being said, i suppose a new offensive coordinator could use the same playbook, and just improvise here and there during this season.

hell... make Cam Newton our new offensive coordinator! haha

He really is the one thing holding this team back.  If we had a competent system in place better tailored to Cam and the entire offense, this team would be so much better.  I don't know how anyone can defend him anymore.  The amount of hesitation and disappointment when he was promoted and stayed was clearly there for a reason.  College and NFL, he's never really had a good track record.  For pete's sake.

That is actually the only part Shula gets right (some of the time anyways).  Sometimes you have to go against tendencies on 3rd down.  The defense knows you want to throw a short pass near the first down marker and will play accordingly.   I don't fault Shula for that.  I just think his overall philosophies are what is holding the offense back.
