Is Cam the worst QB on the roster?

Here's my crazy theory on why Cam is always slow to start in games, but gets into gear by his third series...

It's the shoes.

Cam always comes out and does his warm ups in his fancy Underarmor cleats. Let's face it, they make a big deal about showing them off before the game, and it is good advertising. League rules require him to change the cleats before the game starts, so it's go back to the locker room, slap on the Nikes, get taped up and get out there.

So he has gotten warmed up and acclimated to the Underarmor cleats, then goes back in and switches to a different brand with different characteristics. Athletes are really particular about their shoes, the fit, the breaking them in... and he goes out and prepares with one, then plays in the others. It probably takes him three series on the field to get the feel of them and get situated again.

Just to show off some special shoes and pick up some advertising dollars. Could this showboating actually be hurting the team a bit? Love the guy and can't wait to see him play, but if this is the problem, he needs to get his priorities straight.

Here is my theory...and maybe i'm just saying this because this preseason is fresh on my mind.

Our offense always seems to do better when they have to.. i.e. two minute drills, when we really need to get something going, etc.

For athletes, playing relaxed can be a good thing..it doesnt appear to be a good thing for us though.. Its like they come out of the gates trying to relax their nerves but they end up relaxing their minds as well, and that razor sharp focus just isnt there..After they get a few wake up calls, they start to do better.   I think we may need to do a better job at finding that balance between being relaxed and also keeping the intensity level up.

..or maybe its just the preseason and im overthinking it.

No and I'd have to disagree with people saying that Cam knows it doesn't count. If you're saying that you want to be great, then every time you step on field, every time you make throw a pass, it counts. I don't know what the issue is or how to fix it, but I know it counts...

Cam basically uses these games as practice. Especially with a set of WRs that aren't established, a lot of it is just going out there seeing what you can and can't do.

Let's face it, until Jacksonville, it doesn't really matter how he plays; good, bad, slow or fast he's the undisputed starting QB and the group he plays with are pretty much undisputed starters.

If he gets down to Jacksonville and stinks up the joint, then we can get all worked up over it. Until then, just sit back and enjoy the season to come. Cheer for a couple of undrafted guys to make the team, hope that our special teams groups gel and that no one else gets injured.

Cam will be fine.

I don't 100% agree with that. You play how you practice. Practice is the time to as you said, see what you can or can't do but it's also a time to hone in on your fundamentals, ie: foot work, high throws, anticipation (hitting receivers in stride), etc. Cam is a very good QB but he has yet to correct minor issues...

he's just not consistent, but he hasn't really had much consistency around him since he's entered the league. People talk about his footwork, but that has a lot to do with the oline. Once he builds trust in his protection you'll see those little things worked out.

It's no secret I'm a DA fan, there is no doubt we would win more games with him under center. Every time I see him on the field it's a completely different offense. I see a more comfortable, confident, efficient and smooth offense with him at QB..

I don't care if it's pre season or against the lowly Bucs in regular season, he just passes the eye test more than Cam does. I really wish he played against a better team than the Bucs last year to prove my point, we would have been a 9 win team last year with DA under center.

yep derek anderson looked good against what was the literal worst team in the NFL in 2014 and a bunch of future special teamers and backups in a vanilla cover 2

no argument from me

Some people tend to forget (I think on purpose), that Tampa Bay's quarterback last year was a backup as well.

And also, looking at Cam's stats against the same TB team the year prior were on par or slightly lower than DA, so doesnt that even warrant the argument that's it's not crazy to compare Cam and DA
