So, Rivera REALLY REALLY loves his vets, or just hates Wegher

Remember that red headed LB years ago that tore it up in preseason? Think his last name started with a L. He got cut and then went to the Eagles and got cut. Big difference playing against 2's and 3's in pre season. I wont get excited unless he tears it up against the 1's.

Honestly after the legend of Taye Biddle....no preseason superstar thrills me :(

I dropped a Biddle reference on twitter and literally nobody got it.. Crazy to think it was almost a decade ago that he was on the roster.

He may not be putting Wegher back at #5 because he isn't evaluating him. Fozzy may be at #2 because he IS evaluating him.

All coaches rely heavily on veterans -- that's how you build a team identity. Also you don't have to reinvent the wheel each year with vets like you do with teaching new rookies.

Fozzy isn't really one of those vets yet, that takes a couple of years of play before you start getting into the safer zone (no position is completely safe, except for a few franchise level players). Rivera, however, has to compare not just preseason effectiveness, but also Fozzy's production last season. Also, has Fozzy reached his full potential, peaked, or does he still have room to grow?

I'm pulling for Wegher to make the team, and I don't think he'll stay on waivers long enough to make PS, but you have to remember how happy we were to have found Fozzy last year. The guy deserves some credit and an opportunity -- he's worked hard for it, too.

I think Fozzy is staying. Heard a radio interview yesterday with RR asking who could step in and take Deangelos place, only 2 he mentioned were Todman and Fozzy.

In the same interview he talked about how Wegher and CAP had the same skill set.

It's gonna suck when we try to get Wegher through to the PS and NE poaches him, but that's what it seems like will happen.

You could also say that about the other 31 teams.

I don't understand that. Norwell was on our roster. Did he go undrafted by the other 31 ? Yes.

But our coaching staff had been able to watch him in OTAs and training camp+ practices. And they still didn't play him until they had no one else

i don't think you have to be Lombardi to tell the difference in Norwell and Amini

bottom line is Rivera hasn't always put the best 53 out there. Don't matter if they are vets or rookies he    is challenged when it comes to evaluating talent. You can also lay some of this blame on his position coaches.  But he's the head coach and the buck stops with him.

OR... He, like any sane coach, would rather put a 3rd year player on the field over an undrafted rookie to start the year. Like it or not, Norwell was an unknown. He balled out when he was in which is awesome, but we had no idea if he would even be serviceable. I could understand your point of view if Rivera were such a tard that he went back and replaced Norwell, Remmers, Benwikere, etc. with Amini, Chandler, and White this offseason now that they are healthy. But he's not. Because he's putting the best people available on the field.

Same thing happened for another team about 14 years ago. They had a well established veteran pro bowler that went down with an injury. Some 6th rounder stepped in and got an opportunity to play only because that guy got hurt. Now he has 4 super bowls and is married to a super model. But the only reason he was put in was because the guy in front of him got hurt... I wouldn't call Bill Belicheck challenged when it comes to evaluating talent.
