Corey Brown will be OK

Smithers

I usually don't start threads...heck I rarely post.  But I wanted to be positive about Corey Brown for a second.

Brown couldn't catch a thing last night.  His technique was terrible.  It's like he forgot everything he was ever taught.  But people seem to be forgetting one very important thing.  On all those plays that resulted in drops, Corey was open.  He was constantly beating the Dolphins starting corners and safeties and getting himself in a position to make a play on the ball.  He had great separation on several plays, especially the dropped touchdown (where he beat 3 defenders).

So sure...his drops last night were inexcusable.  But the man at least managed to get open against a formidable Dolphins secondary.  We need to cut him some slack...he went from being the 3rd or 4th WR to having to start in the # 1 spot last night.  It's not like he was plagued by drops last season.  Quite the opposite actually, as he has usually shown good hands.  Hopefully he has learned his lesson and will play much better from here on out.

So that's my positive spin on things.  I know I know...there is usually no room for positivity on The Huddle.

Actually, he picked a good day to have a bad day.  Better now than in November.

Philly will be fine, the Panthers will be fine, you will be fine. It's the preseason. Calm all of your tits.

And yes I called him Philly. Proehl calls him Philly. His instagram is Philly. I like Philly.

Exactly and all the players call him Philly, so I will as well. Though my new nickname for him is 'Downtown Funky Stuff Malone Corey Philly Brown' or shortened to 'Downtown.'

Why do people keep saying he only dropped one ball? I recorded the game, nobody tipped that ball, Cam threw a fast ball between 3 defenders and Philly completely dropped it. He body catches almost everything.

He was an UDFA for a reason, he's not starter material he suited more for a slot roll. People here act like he was some beast last season when he didn't even have 300 yards receiving

People also act like Boykin is some scrub. If people remember right, this guy was pretty damn good for the Packers in 2013, racking up 681 yds and 3 tds in ONLY 11 games with freakkin Flynn throwing him the ball. The only reason he didn't play a lot last year was the numbers game. Boykin has more experience, is a pretty big target, and attacks the ball in the air better. I stand by my claim that Boykin should be #2 instead of Philly.

Address me directly...

I didn't address you because you're obviously not the only one. You know that I have addressed you and others in the past.

You are the engineer of the Corey Brown hype train, but you are far from the only one.

The thing that disturbs me is that its really not about you being right or wrong, it's about the best men winning the jobs. And sometimes people see what they want to (or not see what they want to as in the "irrelevance" of Byrd), film or not.

Nothing has changed. If Corey doesn't step up, then he will step out.

BTW, we've now had two preseason games, and this third one proves to be a very important one for Corey, assuming that he starts.

Address me directly. I wish I was face to face with you so we could have this discussion. And I wish we could haI'mve the film on a screen right in front of us as well. I will admit when a player does poorly, even if it's a player I've been supporting. And Corey had a poor game against the Dolphins. But the play in the endzone was not a drop. That I am adamant about. Maybe there was another drop he had that I don't remember (I know that first one on 3rd down, but can't remember if there was another or not) so if there was let me know and I'll admit I was wrong. But the one in the endzone was tipped.

And in response to your other post, he didn't have many drops last year at all. He body-catches a lot and that's not good, but he didn't struggle with drops last year. Igo and Voth don't know sh*t about what the depth chart will be. They're going off of what they saw in that preseason game, without watching extensive film because they aren't analysts. They aren't hearing any inside info about "oh Corey's going to be cut, oh Boykin is a starter, oh blah blah blah blah blah." They are just observing things. Corey was miles ahead of Boykin the entire preseason according to those 2 as well and 1 preseason game, no matter how bad, won't change that at all.

I care because I know I'm right based on what I saw. Whoever is better than so be it, and if Boykin magically becomes our starter and puts up 1500 then great, I'll admit I was wrong and be happy with production. But until I see anything different than what I've maintained, I will continue to support the notion that Corey will be our starter. It's got nothing to do with liking him better than Boykin or some nonsense like that. I've watched the film and it don't lie. Maybe my eyes do at this stage but that's another story...

i don't know what the fug your tV showed.. but that was a perfect pass that hit his chest in the end zone.... I'm Sorry but Philly needs to catch with his hands and not his chest..

I didn't see a tip when I looked at it on a couple of replays, and I can't take the announcers' words for it because, frankly, they have been more than sketchy.

If it was tipped, it was barely discernible and surely didn't move the trajectory of the ball enough to not hit Brown's hands and chest.

You guys act like they were perfect passes that were thrown to him and he just decided "gee I just feel like dropping it right now". One was behind him and at his waist that he had to dive for. The other was a deflection right when he was about to catch it. The huddle just needs to calm their tits.

There are a lot of nonperfect passes in the NFL. Every sunday, I see good receivers catch tough balls. Why can't or couldn't corey brown do that? I'm not saying I am giving up on him but saying that he can only catch perfect passes is an indictment on his abilities.
