Out with the "old". In with the new?

Tolbert has one more preseason game imo to earn a place on the team. I don't think the team benefits by having his spot guaranteed regardless of production.

I can agree with that. Based solely on preseason I don't think he's really earned anything either.

Big question for me is his contract. I don't follow the money side at all so I'm not sure if it hurts us to cut him or if we need to look for a trade if that's the case.

Cotchery is sure-handed, and has been relatively sure-handed his entire career. You win some, you lose some. I don't think he has any notable problem of not wrestling for the ball, or not catching with his hands.

If you want to say he is old and slow, a shell of his former self, or that Boykin can provide the same services more efficiently and at a cheaper price, then I can't argue with you.

Edit: BTW, Cotchery had ONE drop last season.

False, i can name at least 3 BIG drops off the top of my head

Isn't his cap hit too big to where even if he's not productive that it's smarter not to cut him? Once his cap hit is no longer an issue then he very much will be on the bubble.

Which will be after this year, I think. This may be the last year we see him in a Panthers jersey

Corey did drop those passes, however, Cam has got to develop some softer passes.  Everything doesn't need to be mock 2 to get to the receiver.   I suspect many passes that are dropped are because the wr just cant handle the velocity cam puts on his passes.

that was true of him in the short game a few years ago but none of last week's drops were his fault. That's crazy.

Artis-Payne over Stewart?

Stop drinking.

stewart looked like he was going through the motions out there and other then stewarts performance last year what has he done? i like stewart as a change of pace back having him carry the load is risky because of his injury history. why not let cameron artis payne with some fresh legs start? hes looking good with his limited reps

You can look at the entire season here for comparison's sake. They do have filters (just hit the white arrows).http://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/stats/drops/2014/

But Cotchery's specific page is here: http://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/players/246315/jerricho-cotchery/#Receiving Yards$GameType=279588574&SeasonMax=9999&SeasonMin=1990

Your boy had as many drops as receptions!

Been a panther fan for my whole life . Dont get me wrong I like Stewart but  we need him for the whole season and lets be real you think stewart is really going to be on this team next year? Artis payne is the future and running backs a young mans job in the modern nfl. Why risk stewart getting injured by giving him the bulk of the carries  when he can be a change of pace back to a rookie that has showed some promise so far? Dont be delusional about stewart from what I remember half the huddle wanted him gone before he broke out last year

I guess you missed the part in this thread where I said that Cotchery is the "old" in this thread's equation. If it were up to me, he'd probably be axed.

As I've told this place many times before, I'm all about upgrading the whole receiving corps. Make no mistake: If Cotchery, Brown, Boykin, or Ginn is our WR2, then we have problems. notwithstanding our problem, we still have to get the best of what we have out on the field.
