Who Impressed/Who Depressed

Who Impressed:

-Entire O-Line: Said it in the game day thread, I've never seen Cam with so much time to pass

-Josh Norman: Outside of the one missed tackle, guy really played great

-Brandon Wegher: 2 TDs, 'nuff said

-Lee Ward: Solid blocking, opened nice running lanes, saw him take on a big DE and still hold the block

-Kony Ealy: After a quiet first game, he comes out in this game with a nice strip sack and good pressure on the QB

-Shaq Thompson: Really stood out, had that one nice play on Jordan Cameron

-Jarrett Boykin: Seemed to be a QB favorite, caught the ball when his number was called

-Terry Redden: INT to help win the game

-Teddy Williams the CB: This one I didn't know too much about, but put him on here for the sake of the INT

-Marcus Ball: Had two nice plays at the end of the game, one was a game-winning stop on a 2 point conversion

-Joe Webb and Damiere Byrd: Really came together on the GW drive

Who Depressed:

-Teddy Williams the ST ace: I remember this one tackle he whiffed which allowed for a big gain

-ST coverage: We seem to keep giving up big returns, needs to be fixed

-Corey Brown: 3 drops I believe, really a terrible performance, hoped to see more out of him with KB out the rotation

-Penalties: Not a person of course but a whole team effort, from false starts to holding, there just seemed to be an extra amount of penalties called on us tonight, little kinks need to be fixed

Let me know if I missed someone in either category.

Either I'm overly optimistic, or the Impressed to Depressed ratio is fairly lopsided. The team played an overall good game today.

Good Post OP.  The team started horrifically (again), but they kept their composure (Cam especially) after that debacle of a 1st Quarter.  My additions...

Who Impressed:

-Daryl Williams: Jeremy is right when he says he has been the most impressive rookie of this class.  O-Line turn around is remarkable

-Cam Newton: I'm very happy with the preseason sled.  Going against Buffalo and Miami is tough, especially since defenses are at an inherent advantage when teams are running vanilla plays in the preseason.  Corey Brown let him down big time on the first few series, but he bounced back and had a nice series at the end.

-Greg Olsen: Gets the job done week after week.  Is definitely a top 5 TE at the least.

Who Depressed:

-Robert Lester: Was on the bubble anyway... that angle he took at the end of the game was atrocious

-Fozzy Whittaker: Didn't outright suck, but he has been outplayed all preseason long by Todman and Wegher

-Corey Brown: Just had to include him again.  Was his chance to show up on a bigger stage and he utterly failed.  Had 2 awful drops (including a nice TD pass) that starting WR's just can't make.  I don't know if it was just nerves at "being the guy," or a lacksadaisical attitude thinking he is a starter now by default, but that was terrible

Yeah I agree, that angle allowed for the big gain. Luckily, Marcus Ball came up big in the clutch to save the day.

I want Josh Norman to be more consistent. He whiffed a tackle that would have stalled a drive. He kind of redeemed himself in the end zone, but the Phins still ultimately scored a TD a couple of plays later. I think there is going to be a lot more testing of him with Peanut on the other side.

Good point! I think his performance got lost in the Wegher love fest.

However, I think he has solidified the #2 RB job

I am all in on the Wegher love fest too.  IMO he deserves a spot on our final 53.

But tonights difference was that CAP was running against the #1's and #2's whereas Wegher was running against the #3's.

I don't think Corey is struggling because of a lackadaisical attitude at all. Kid has done nothing but work hard to become better. There's nothing he wants more than to have a breakout year this year. I think it's definitely mind over matter for him right now. He just needs to clear his mind and ball out.

While his drops were disappointing, no receiver on this team gets more open than he does. His route running and speed are legit. All he has to do is work on his catching and he's golden. I still expect a big year from Corey.

Fair point.  Tonight was a disaster for him (albeit a small sample size), but he was the only guy with ones I saw consistently getting open.  Still, a starting WR has to make those catches.  Getting open isn't enough.

I want nothing more than for him to have a breakout year.

I too agree with this. I don't think Philly is the type of person that thinks a spot is his just by default. Listening to his interviews he seems very humble in fact. I think he needs to clear his head or shake what seems to be nerves off. He was clearly the only one that was getting open tonight with the ones and I agree that if your open and its your play you have to catch the ball. No doubt in my mind this kid will shake this off and get back into the game.
