Wasnt there talk of Funchess looking so good in OTAs that..

There's a difference between #1 or #2 WR and the X or Y WR. The numbers mean nothing. The point I made several weeks ago was that KB is better suited off the line while Funchess may be better suited offset from the line. KB enjoys being physical off the line. Not a trait for what people consider a #1 WR. I wasn't saying Funchess would be "better" than KB. Just that they have different styles and the style Funchess has is more suited to the colloquial #1WR. But again, the players don't identify themselves as 1 or 2 or whatever. They are designated as X, Y or Z.

People use the numbers wrong but every team has a #1, #2, #3 receiver, etc. The #1 is the first option in the passing game. The #2 the second option. And the same for the rest. They have nothing to do with X, Z or slot, you're right about that. But they are still real. Funchess is not more suited to be the "colloquial" #1 WR because typically the best receivers are X receivers as they are more complete, having that ability to get off of a jam. Steve Smith plays the X, Beckham plays the X, Dez plays the X, Megatron plays the X, etc. But that doesn't really matter, it's just whoever's best. Before Beckham was drafted, Cruz was the #1 and he's a slot receiver. Funchess is versatile and could probably get to the point where he can play any of the 3 positions and KB is a bonafide X, but that has no effect on who's the "#1" or "#2." Whoever is better is the #1. And right now KB is miles ahead of him. And I still don't believe that Funchess will ever be better than KB. I just haven't seen it yet. Of course it's a possibility but it's premature to be saying that now. And it really doesn't matter who's better or who ends up getting more yards/catches. I'm just happy to have KB and will hopefully be happy to have Funchess but I can't say that until I see him on gameday.

I'm not too worried about which guy is our "#1" receiver. I think they will both be great players in their own way. While Kelvin's injury sucks really badly I'm not ready to jump off the deep end just yet. Everyone keeps saying don't expect Funch to put up KB's numbers, but I don't think it's going to be all that difficult. KB had a whopping 146 targets last season. I imagine that number is one of the highest in the league. And he only caught %50 of them for 1,008 yards and 9 TDs. I do not see Funch having the same drop problems as Kelvin did. Let's say Funch gets around 100-125 targets and can catch around %60-70 of those targets. Let's say he also doesn't drop a wide open touchdown grab every game. I believe that puts him right in the ballpark of 800-1,000 yards and double digit touchdowns. The offense around him is better than the offense that was surrounding Kelvin last year too. I'm not saying that he's going to be as good as Kelvin was going to be this season, but I think he can definitely do enough to get the job done. #Playoffs

You seem to know a good bit about football, you still wanna bet $$$ on the panther record you posted earlier?

As they say put your money where your mouth is.

I didn't post a panther record. pro football is one of the most difficult to predict. the Browns beat the Taints last year, fer cryin out loud.

It's been mentioned before, but the Seahawks were one yard away from back to back Super Bowl wins with Doug Baldwin as their "WR1" and the Patriots won the SB with Julian Edelman as their 1.

If the defense plays up to its top 5 potential, Stew stays heathy and the o-line isn't awful, we should be in very good shape.

those two teams are built and ran differently.

ultimately Jstew is the wildcard. There are other factors but I think he is the biggest. We don't have the coaching or qb New England has (even if they're cheaters) and we don't have beast mode.

jstew is gonna have to ball and cam is gonna have to be cam. Throw in a little luck and we might be alright. Im staying optimistic.

As said before, don't expect Funchess to eclipse 1,000 yards this season BUT don't be surprised either. This notion that Devin isn't the talent that Kelvin is as a WR is misguided. G-Man valued Funchess highly (graded him as a first rounder) because of his IQ, versatility and athleticism. Benjamin and Funchess have different strengths but I definitely view Devin as our future #1 (in terms of being our best weapon once he learns all three positions, how to use his size and consistently get separation).

Be prepared to be disappointed.

Sorry, I'll trust G-Man's assessment over your opinion 100 times over.

Right. Kelvin Benjamin: 28 overall. Devin Funchess: 41 overall. 2014 was a much much much better draft class all the way through than 2015 as well.

I'm not saying Funchess definitely won't end up being better than KB since no one can predict that without seeing him play a single snap yet. Just saying to not be disappointed if it doesn't happen.

I'm not gonna jump ahead and proclaim him a Pro Bowler BUT from everything that Rivera and Gettleman have described about Funchess he's got the traits of being "The Guy". Draft position means diddy squat.

Well we'll just have to find out and one of us will get to say "I told you so..." No point in arguing it.

We traded up and had a late-1st round grade on him for a reason.  Dave must see something.

Of course he saw 'something.' But that 'something' doesn't mean that Funchess will be better than KB or that DG thinks he'll be better than KB...
