  • Coleman is 28 and in his 6th Season out of Ohio State.  In his senior year at OSU, Coleman made 68 tackles, five interceptions and three forced fumbles. He earned first-team All-American honors and first-team All-Big Ten honors.
  • Coleman contemplated quitting football his freshman season when one of his teammates was paralyzed after a tackle
  • Coleman was the 7th Round pick of the Eagles in the 2010 Draft.  In his career, he has 258 tackles, 10 interceptions, 17 PBU, and 3 forced fumbles
  • Coleman was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week in 2011 after a 3 interception performance against the Redskins.  
  • Coleman’s best statistical season came in 2012, when he recorded 93 tackles, four passes defensed and two interceptions in 14 starts in Reid’s last season there.
  • Coleman dropped to reserve role in 2013 under Chip Kelly, logging only 14 tackles in 15 games (no starts)
  • Coleman was not resigned after the 2013 season, and signed and then was released by Minnesota during final cuts before reuniting with Andy Reid in KC.
  • Despite just playing on 377 snaps last year for the Chiefs as a backup, Coleman accounted for half the teams interceptions (6) with 3 of his own.
  • Despite his production in terms of interceptions, from his scouting report he has been seen as more of an "in-the-box" safety who lacks the speed to cover elite receivers deep.
  • As such, most (myself included) thought he was brought in to compete with Roman Harper for the SS job, but his play has actually pushed him ahead of Tre Boston at FS
  • Currently listed as the 2nd FS on the Panthers depth chart, but has been getting most 1st teams reps after a strong training camp.

Having Harper beside him negates the good. We just traded being good at FS and sucking at SS to being good at SS and sucking at FS.

Har per played well last year most of the time, he now has another year in the system and has more talent in front of him. He isn't my favorite,  but he's not the liability he was.

I knew of Coleman back in 2012 when he had that solid season (as he was on my fantasy team). Yeah, he had health problems that kind of derailed his career, but even in a reserve role, he still made lemonade out of the lemons. Last year, though buried behind some pretty solid dudes in KC, he was still able to make a notable impression upon the geeks at Pro Football Focus, and was graded number 26 out of 80 something DBs.

 If he is lucky enough to escape the injury bug, then I don't see why Coleman can't be the most complete and best safety that we have had for a minute.

If memory serves me correct he got an increased role after Berry went out with Cancer and really stepped up.

Yes, he did. But from what I have gathered, that's what Coleman does when he gets the opportunity. He steps up!  That's why I am fairly excited about his prospects this year. People keep comparing him to Mike Mitchell, but I think that he is markedly better in coverage (from what I've seen). Plus, I think that he is smarter than Mitchell as he plays aggressively, but not necessarily recklessly.  I think that Mitchell took things too far sometimes---right to the edge---and that cost us a few penalties.  Coleman seems to have a much more controlled aggression, and seems a little bit more cerebral in his approach. 

We'll see fairly shortly.

      He can say what he feels, but he's not saying "the previous year, the team wasn't very good" he directly called his teammates out and in a way that is flat-out not true. "You are your record"? Oh ok, he's only had 3 winning seasons, but in my mind he isn't a loser, and I bet he isn't in his either - cause football is a team sport and wins and losses are on the team, even when one really bad player (Jimminy Pickles) can basically screw over everything.  And this comes on the heels of his thing about the MVP, which is fine, but also selfish. His teammates consistently went to bat for him... Just feels like he's more about himself.

      Good point--I think this draft is great for us at this time--At the top of the draft, the DT (DEs/NTs in 3-4) are loaded.  The Edges are deep.  We need to double dip there--hoping to move back so we can add three players to that pool.  In free agency, if I were Morgan, I would focus on DBs and  ILB--fix the back end of the defense.  If he signed a S, CB, ILB, and TE, it would be cost effective.  In the draft, DE, Edge, and WR should be the priorities.  After that, OL Depth, QB depth, DB depth, RB depth.  My Free agent Targets:  TE: Juwan Johnson, Saints.  29, had over 500 yards with Saints. S: Julian Blackmon, Colts.  He will be one of the top free agents--gonna cost us, but not like an edge or WR. ILB: Tyrel Dodson, Dolphins.  80 tackles on just 854 snaps--under 27 years of age. CB: Mike Jackson, Carolina.  He is 28 and had 3 picks and was on the field at all times.  68 PFF score. NT:  best available for Evero's system.
