Schein weighs in on Panther chances sans KB

Losing KB was bad, but we still have a better WR core going into this season than last year. Matter of fact we have upgraded every position group during the offseason. Cam is healthy, Jstew actually practice the entire TC, the OLine is better and have more player makers on defense. The media is going to be eating a lot crow. Can't wait for week 1.

Schein is a tool who knows nothing about the Panthers. He has been putting the team down since he predicted them to win the SB they year after the loss to the Pats (and the team bombed). He seems to believe that yelling on his show makes him sound like he knows what he is talking about.  His opinion on the Panthers means nothing as far as I am concerned.

Not b*tching, just looking at things how they are right now. Granted it's still early, but the offensive line has not been able to open holes for the running game. Stewarts health is always a concern. Just like with the WR's, the RB's are a bunch of no name's that have a lot to prove. The DT's outside of Star and KK are not good. That will effect Davis, Keuchly, and the secondary. Shula has proven to be stubborn and his play calling is head scratching. Rivera might revert back to not going for the win and being aggressive.

My hope is that all of these things will work themselves out. The players don't quit and play hard for Rivera.

OL has played a total of one game and it was against one of the best DL's in the NFL, on their turf without game planning.

There are a lot of factors that go into what we call a good WR.  OL, QB, OC, trust, chemistry, etc. One thing that people do not realize is that Cam's timing is not always perfect (lotta reasons for that too--OL, read time, etc). The good WRs know what to do, where to go, to get open once the play breaks down, and that is only about 2-3 seconds into the play in most cases.  Benjamin was not great at that, Olsen is.  I have not seen the others.

Do not underestimate the power of a second year in a system with same QB.  Brown, Ginn, Cotchery, Bersin--they all know Cam and the playbook.  We are not as bad off as people suggest.

KB is good, and the loss hurts. But we can all be realistic. KB also got a good amount of garbage stats last year. That whole 1,000 yards and 9 TDs didn't come when they were still I the game. Granted, KB would have been better this year with better options beside him. But let's imagine for a moment.

Funch-Brown-Dickson-OLINE-Olsen-Ginn

That's not too bad. Then imagine replacing Brown and Ginn with Lucas and Bersin for red zone purposes.

Point being, we have enough weapons to be successful passing. With an improved O-line, Cam will still be able to make plays. Again, KB would have been AWESOME in those packages, but we are still competitive with anyone in the league; especially if our run game does as well as we believe it will.

To extend your point, if I may:

Funchess is raw, but arguably not as raw as Benjamin was.  Benjamin has a slight advantage in the physical tools, but Funchess is not far behind.  I am guessing the difference between the 2 as rookies will be 200 yards or so.  If that is the case, you are talking 12.5 yards per game.  Red zone?  The way Funchess uses his hands to high point the ball, I say it could be a wash.

Now lets look at the other differences:

QB

2014 Cam (, no offseason, limited preseason, hurt, no chemistry with stable full of new WRs) vs. 2015 Cam (Healthy, better leader, entering his prime, knowledge of every WR in camp)

Other WRs

2014 Cotchery, Avant, Underwood, Bersin, etc.

2015 Funchess, Cotchery, Brown, Ginn

OL

2014 T: Bell, Chandler, late addition-Remmers

2015 T: Oher, Williams, Remmers

2014 G: Silatolu, and I can't remember the RG--was it Scott?

2015 G: Norwell, Turner

The difference between Benjamin and Funchess is offset by the improved WR corps.  The OL is better, the RBs are better, and the QB is going to be improved.  If Vegas has the over/under at 8.5 (they did at one point), take the over.

While i hate the fact that media thinks we cant overcome this, i hate more reading our own fans bag on KB as a way to make themselves feel better. Its going to be a tough road for us but we we are built for other things then a high powered passing game. It will all play out in front of us in the next few weeks we will know what we have.

We've never been built for a "high powered passing game." Outside of Chud's first year we have always been a run first team that aim to control the ball and play defense.
