KB's offseason caused the injury

Body mass index doesn't work for athletes since they have far more muscle than the average person. He just took an awkward step which happens.

Cam newton is the same height as Kelvin and weighs even more than him but that doesn't mean he's at all obese or at a greater risk for this injury. Let I said body mass index is used for the general population to give an estimate but it does not apply at all for world class athletes.

You know what I apologize for questioning the work ethic of the great Kelvin Benjamin... He disproves science, and his healthy knee was blown on one cut... Ron Rivera was wrong for calling him overweight he's a greek god who's work ethic and training routine should never be questioned. Train as hard as you possibly can after an offseason where you gained 10 pounds the results will be amazing.

I live in Detroit he's never had an ACL injury.

why did he miss 3 games in 2009? Sprained ACL

he also had a ACL sprain in college.  also had another knee issue with a partially torn PCL in the NFL in 2013 and missed games.

those are knee injuries, 2 ACL, 1 PCL.

And also if he did just sprain his acl instead of tearing it like you suggested would have happened if he wasn't "clinically obese" then he would still need season ending surgery since an acl sprain is as good as a tear and needs to be replaced

You can rehab a sprained ACL without a replacement...

BMI leaves a lot to be desired because there are so many body types.  I would think that the scale would have to be adjusted even further for athletes.

That being said,  KB is a little heavy.  The quacks want your BMI to be somewhere between 18.5 and 24.9. Benjamin's is over 30, which is technically obese as judged by BMI.  By normal standards,  he probably is carrying too much weight.

A more extreme example was Jordan Gross.  He was grossly overweight,  but now he's closer to normal than not. Like it or not, carrying around too much weight is not the best thing to do,  but I get why athletes do it.

He was overweight for his position, and being overweight causes stress on the ACL... Ron Rivera called him overweight not because he looks fat, but because at his position that 10 pounds makes a massive difference. BMI I personally hate as well, but you can't tell me being 255 pounds is healthy for a WR.

You are correct, and I'd like to point out that if he kept care of his body in the offseason he would have sprained his ACL kinda like Calvin Johnson didn't tear it like I said. And he missed 3 games with an ACL sprain that didn't involve an ACL replacement like the other poster noted to me.

If he was 255 pounds and was only 5 percent body fat then yeah I can tell you that 255 pounds is healthy for a him. It's probably not ideal because then he probably won't be as fast as someone who's 170 pounds but it doesn't mean he's too fat. BMI is an estimate of body fat but it doesn't work for atheltics since their weight is from mostly muscle. If you had numbers showing he has 17 percent body fat then yeah you'd have a good argument but that's not that case.

Calvin's could tear tomorrow...clearly he is consistently stressing his knee (which is why he has consistently had ACL/PCL injuries repeatedly)

These are super human freaks doing explosive things.....injuries simply are gonna happen.  Maybe you get lucky, maybe you don't.  Also, he is 6'5 with a naturally muscular build.  He is gonna be heavy when in great shape.

Stop with the BMI i was using that as an example... 255 pounds for a WR is too much weight for the ACL... He's not a body builder, he's a WR who is demanded to make precise cuts which directly effects the ACL if you have too much weight while cutting the ACL will wear down, and the end result is this. Theres a reason Rivera called him overweight he's not stupid. His ACL is no stronger then the average person.
