KB's offseason caused the injury

I agree with that but not all greek god players in the NFL require the amount of cutting precision that is needed by a WR... Name me a 255 pound RB because thats the only position that puts as much stress on the ACL as the WR position.

Jonathan Stewart is even more obese than Kelvin based on BMI.  His BMI is 33.7

That is my only point.  Don't be bringing in BMI when talking about professional athletes.

All that matters was that our coaches felt he was 10 pounds over playing weight I don't agree with BMI 100% of the time either. WR's don't show up to camp 10 pounds overweight typically unless your Mike Williams who ate himself out of the league. 10 pounds of even pure muscle will cause stress on the ACL. 255 pounds is not a healthy playing weight for a WR.

255 lbs on his frame looks normal but his ACL is no stronger then mine or yours.

The human body isn't actually suppose to do what NFL guys in today's world.  You can be too big, fast, and strong for your own body.

Not always a fan of Darin Gantt's but he always use to comment that he thought Thomas Davis was simply to fast, strong and explosive....and a body just isn't built for that.

So to prevent it is to not play.  B/c you can't play in the NFL now with the body of someone from 1960.

I agree and disagree. Disagree that him being overweight in the offseason straight up "caused" this. But I do agree that it couldn't have helped anything. I do think he will learn from this that he should show up to OTAs in top condition next year. Had this not happened, he may have always viewed the offseason as "absolute lazy time." Did he show up overweight and out of shape? Yes. Did he drop the weight quick? Yes. But the best way to prevent injury is keeping yourself consistently "in shape." I think he will come back next year in the best shape we've ever seen him.

Take this with a grain of salt because a lot of you out there feel this is just bad luck, and I frankly don't always buy into BMI calculations (Body Mass Index). I'm going to school for Physical Therapy, and am currently in the doctorate program. Kelvin Benjamin last season weighed 245 pounds, and checked in at 255 pounds when Rivera called him overweight. 6 ft 5 and 255 pounds puts you at a body mass index of 30.2, and clinically put KB in the 'obese' category. Being overweight let alone clinically obese puts a ton of stress on your Anterior Cruciate ligament known as the 'ACL'. Due to this stress patients who are overweight are NOT supposed to over exhaust the legs, and add more stress to  the ligament while getting their weight down. Low impact workouts, and light cardio (Bike, walking, etc) over a LONGER period of time is what is needed to avoid serious injuries.    (this could have been done all preseason if proper precautions were taken) IF he was CONSISTENTLY keeping his body in shape for the season all offseason this injury would have been prevented. The stress on the ACL caused by being overweight can cause tears let alone physically exerting yourself in a fashion that KB did to get his weight back to normal so fast! The combination of inactivity, and weight gain and then pushing it too hard to get his weight down caused the ACL to be weakened, and therefore causing it to tear in a non contact drill. The ligament is a cable made up of threads, and strands and it literally takes millions of tears in these strands also known as collagen molecules to tear the ligament and that doesn't just happen in one fell swoop unless physical pressure is applied (being hit). The cleat stuck in the ground, and a healthy strong ACL would have MOST LIKELY resulted in a sprain not a tear. So now Kelvin Benjamin has to rehab slow and steady like he should have trained all offseason rather then exploding into game shape so fast. Slow and steady wins the race, your body will let you know when you have pushed it to far, and will force you to go slow and steady (rehab). Obviously football is not a slow and steady sport, and proper training should have occured when he showed up 10 pounds overweight especially with his frame and build the knee is obviously already under stress. Take care of your body, stretch properly, and consistently keep your body in shape hitting it all at once in a short period of time will result in injuries like this.

Go home Steve you're drunk.

I'd bet my life savings on it that one cut would not cause a HEALTHY ACL to tear. There was prior wear and tear and being 'overweight' like our coach indicated

Did you know the ACL when inflamed, and stretched can cause hamstring tightness, and hamstring injuries? Who showed up to camp and got a hamstring injury after week one? kelvin Benjamin... The ACL was already being compensated.

You see Swagaces, this is what you get for dedicating your life to expanding human knowledge: a bunch of people who don't know what they're talking about laughing at you for saying something that is common knowledge among experts.

You really expect us to believe KB's injury is related to how he works out because science suggests it to be true? please...
