KB's offseason caused the injury

Take this with a grain of salt because a lot of you out there feel this is just bad luck, and I frankly don't always buy into BMI calculations (Body Mass Index). I'm going to school for Physical Therapy, and am currently in the doctorate program. Kelvin Benjamin last season weighed 245 pounds, and checked in at 255 pounds when Rivera called him overweight. 6 ft 5 and 255 pounds puts you at a body mass index of 30.2, and clinically put KB in the 'obese' category. Being overweight let alone clinically obese puts a ton of stress on your Anterior Cruciate ligament known as the 'ACL'. Due to this stress patients who are overweight are NOT supposed to over exhaust the legs, and add more stress to  the ligament while getting their weight down. Low impact workouts, and light cardio (Bike, walking, etc) over a LONGER period of time is what is needed to avoid serious injuries.    (this could have been done all preseason if proper precautions were taken) IF he was CONSISTENTLY keeping his body in shape for the season all offseason this injury would have been prevented. The stress on the ACL caused by being overweight can cause tears let alone physically exerting yourself in a fashion that KB did to get his weight back to normal so fast! The combination of inactivity, and weight gain and then pushing it too hard to get his weight down caused the ACL to be weakened, and therefore causing it to tear in a non contact drill. The ligament is a cable made up of threads, and strands and it literally takes millions of tears in these strands also known as collagen molecules to tear the ligament and that doesn't just happen in one fell swoop unless physical pressure is applied (being hit). The cleat stuck in the ground, and a healthy strong ACL would have MOST LIKELY resulted in a sprain not a tear. So now Kelvin Benjamin has to rehab slow and steady like he should have trained all offseason rather then exploding into game shape so fast. Slow and steady wins the race, your body will let you know when you have pushed it to far, and will force you to go slow and steady (rehab). Obviously football is not a slow and steady sport, and proper training should have occured when he showed up 10 pounds overweight especially with his frame and build the knee is obviously already under stress. Take care of your body, stretch properly, and consistently keep your body in shape hitting it all at once in a short period of time will result in injuries like this.

BMI would say tons of NFL guy that are built like greek gods are "obese".

BMI showing someone as overweight.....in the NFL....and thinking that means they have let themselves go......is really pointless.

I agree with that but not all greek god players in the NFL require the amount of cutting precision that is needed by a WR...

    • Everybody made too much of that. The CBA and the 17 game schedule is what kills the cohesion we see in teams across the league in the opening games.  You decide, look at your depth and make informed decisions there or you get a an extra quarter or whatever two quarters with your ones.  Teams that are set don’t have those openings as much down the roster to evaluate but that ain’t everybody. It is a quandary. I think they need that 4th preseason game back. But as I said, I don’t lay that as the excuse for Bryce to come out looking like he does to start seasons. He has an entire camp.
    • Hey I said the 1pm west coast team, I said the up down up down and we were due for the up week.  You can’t know what is going to happen. There was a guy that detailed why the league would engineer a Panthers win to bring LA Rams back to the pack in conference standings.  Who really knows, and how much real belief do you have when citing these things? I generally have as much as my superstition allows. It rarely rises to an emotional experience. Usually it is more analytical. In terms of interest. When crazy poo happens and we win a game like today I for sure enjoy it.  I mean you have to think about it, how many times do you connect 2 4th and short situations for TDs? Who does that? That is like the most embarrassing thing for the Rams’ defense lol. That never happens and should never happen.  Expecting it to happen might not be a good plan. But it was pretty great
