Panther Nation, Remember Our Motto (And the 24 hour rule)

In light of the loss the team as well as the fandom suffered yesterday and the complete panic and turmoil Panther Nation turned into, I felt the need to give everyone a reminder. Yes, this could have been posted in another thread and buried quickly between Sky-is-Falling and Trade-For Smitty posts. But I felt this needed to have it's on thread.

Losing KB is heartbreaking. I'll admit it. Yes, we will now not be team best this team could have been this season. And yes, we don't have an equal replacement. But that's where the "facts" about this team and this season ends.

As for right this min, we are undefeated this season! No one here can possibly know how Funchess will perform. As Jeremy pointed out in the "The Answer is On the Roster" post, we will not be a passing offense but we are set up to be a great Power Run Offense. Is that exciting to watch? Probably not for most. Should that be exciting to Panther Nation? HELL YES!!! I'm not going to try and predict our record or anything. All I know is I'm STILL excited about this season. And I still fully believe we will be playing in January as the 3-peat Kings of the South.

The past 24 hours has truly changed how I view Panther Nation. I have seen fans turn on each other, denounce their fandom for 2015, and even turn on the team. It unsettling. I don't know if it is the influx of new fans from this past season or what. But I have never seen Panther Nation like this. This team needs our support now more than they did 2 days ago. We lost one player. Yes he was a huge part of our offense, but not the entire offense. Last year we didn't have "that" 1 guy on defense. He was a big part of the D, but did that make the unit un-fieldable? HELL NO! So this loss, albeit a big loss, is not the end of the season. So instead of lashing out or giving up, band together! We are Panther Nation. We single handedly destroyed the "Greatest Uni's" Polls. We have shown strength before. Lets show it now!

Ask yourself these three questions: What moment turned you into a Panther fan? What kind of a fan are you? What kind of a fan do you want to be? (Feel free to share your answers with the class)

Let this serve as a reminder for the seasoned fans and an introduction to the New. This team has a motto. It's in the collar of every new jersey. The fans have been screaming it for years. But do you actually realize what you are saying? But just say the words. Live by them. When the team and fans have something happen, some trial in their way...

KEEP POUNDING!!!

Also: During the season, the Huddle has a 24 hours rule. That is, we have 24 hours to vent, dwell, and over-discuss a loss. Let's practice that with this loss. No need to post over and over how the season is over. It's time to bring support and positive thinking to Panther Nation and the team. If the team reacted the way most fans are now, yeah our season IS over before it starts. THANK GOD they have more faith in the team than the fans do.

Reasons I'm not worried:

  • We went 12-4 in 2013 with no receiver getting over 900 yards
  • We have a slightly deeper WR squad this year than last, more talent dispersed throughout
  • We are a run first team anyway
  • We still have Greg Olsen
  • Seahawks went to back to back super bowls with no names at the receiver position and we are built the same way.
  • We Still have a baller ass defense

Reasons I am worried

  • Shula is our OC
  • Funchess as a rookie is not the same as Benjamin as a rookie
  • Shula is our OC

Reasons you all need to shut the hell up:

  • We will not trade for a player. Why the hell would we mortgage our future for a temporary issue? It's like you people don't even realize that there will be more seasons after this one. No sense Hurneying the team by trading away the future. Like seriously, how daft are you people?
  • We didn't go after "X" receiver in the offseason because they were too expensive. We had to lock up Cam and we have to lock up Luke. No reason to throw money at the aging receivers like Johnson or Wayne when we have damn good youth that needs to get paid. We got a guy in the draft who we really really like in Funchess. Time for the kid to step up.
  • You sound like whinny butt-hurt Falcons/Saints fans. Stop it.

I agree with everything you just posted except for the Funchess not being the same as Benjamin as a rookie. Many "experts" (and Fans) last season at this time had the same thoughts about Benjamin. For all anyone knows, Funch could ball out and surpass KB's stats from last season. He could also fall flat like LaFell. But that's all yet to be seen.

I just want to throw this out there for the "Funchess isn't the same rookie Benjamin was" talk.

Yes KB is a physical receiver. Devin is a big damn dude himself too though. Right now he needs to all but move in with Ricky Proehl.

Also, literally no one on that I can recall on this board expected Kelvin to put up the numbers he did last year.

Cam needs to take Funchess under his wing pronto.

You guys really have to stop saying this about the Seahawks.  RW is more accurate than Cam is and their defense is arguably the best defense of the past 20 years.

If you're talking about our receiving corp, your use of damn good is completely wrong.  I would say average at best.

I did, I picked him early in fantasy.  I expected him to get 800+ yards and at least 7 TD's.  Shrugs.

the panthers went 7-8-1 with the indispensable kelvin benjamin.

There is a lot of truth in this.  KB wasn't the reason the team began to win late last year.  The improved defensive play and the emergence of a running game were.

KB is a big loss, but it is not a season ender. It just decreases the margin for error.

Benji is more physical than Funchess. Funchess is a bigger "finesse" receiver that has the potential to be an all around great wideout in the league. Kelvin was our manhandler. Funchess is our athlete.

    • Morgan still has a little John Fox in him. Got to value those RBs even though they have been devalued for around a decade now. Never go more than 2-3 years on a contract unless he is a superstar, never pay high money and never draft a RB high unless you are set everywhere else. We failed on the first and third rules.
    • This is some good solid logic. I still go back to the teams think tank and it includes the current Dan Morgan, each looked over the roster of holes and came to a clear conclusion that the RB needed improving. They could have gave the same 2022 Miles contract to Hubbard, but didn't. Next up Morgan trades up for a RB with sanders and Hubbard here in his last year. While the edge group is lead bye Charles "panthers are the only team that wanted me " harris Hubbard keeps grinding and improves along with the OL, *now* months after seeing brooks on the field and watching hub get like 5.1 ypc...the brain trust goes and gives him a updated miles contract.........Just a odd timeline of events, I believe all of us can agree on that. Just the market is at the lowest its ever been for RBs and this team is 2-7 with other losing seasons with hubbard chugging along as a cheap rookie. I do agree with you sorta need 2 starting level RBs, so use a mid-rounder or sign one in FA for 2-4 per. Hubbard signed for more than King Henry, sure age and all. Id still want Henry for 8per over 2 years than hubbard 8.3 over 2(his cut point) Honestly part of is still pissed form the Herniay era and spending top draft picks and top level cap space on RBs. I love the guy but they even signed toldozer for upper money with stew and dwill, just poor management of resources. Now 20 years later, history repeats while the league is laughing at the Panthers. I want to over spend and over use draft capital on WRs, edge, and DL. At they rotate and play at the same time, panthers never used stew and dwill at the same time while both were top 5 paid. ugh
