FWIW: Mort Says Keep An Ear Out For Reggie Wayne

So we rather have a not-even-ready for the two spot be given the one spot (Funchess)? Or Cotchery who was never a number one over a borderline hall of famer in Reggie Wayne for a year? Come on. You have to at least bring him into camp and see what, if anything he has left. Give a nice performance based contract. If nothing left in the tank, cut him.

eeveryone seems to forget that Wayne is coming off a serious injury and was very limited last year. He maybe a Hall of famer but he is currently a shadow of his former self. He might be a 4 or even a 3 but surely nothing higher. Right now Boykin is a better option than Wayne.

Benjamin was a loss no doubt but at this time last year he was a rookie who many pundits felt wasnt ready to start in the league.  Obviously Proehl got him ready and he was really solid.  He can do the same thing with Funchess.  Plus I think Ginn is going to be a bigger addition than many of you think plus Brown is a year old and better, Bersin is looking bigger and better and Boykin has potential to be a good receiver.

The biggest thing going for us is that Cam is healthy, the O line looks improved and the running game looks to be better as well.  Lets be real here, a 1000 yard season means you averaged 66 yards a game.  I think the guys we have brought in should make up the loss.  Finally we may bring in someone else as well.

All of this doom and gloom is over the top.  Sure I hate the loss but to assume everything is over is ridiculous.

Why do you guys put Proehl on a pedestal? Benjamin was good before he ever got here. If Proehl was so good he would have developed some of these young receivers we seem to have every year. Proehl is just another average WR coach that you guys try and build up because he played here for a few years at the end of his career.

Clearly you dont remember that when we drafted him the general consensus was that we reached for him.  Everyone was impressed with his size and raw talent but felt he would need time to develop, run good routes and have sure hands.  Proehl did a great job of getting him ready to play at a high level in a short period of time.

What makes Proehl valuable to us is not only that he played a number of years in arguably one of the best passing offense in NFl history with St Louis, but that he never had great physical skills upon which to rely.  He got his yards knowing where the holes in defense were, having great technique and being a very smart player.  Those are the qualities which often make you a better coach then you were as a player.

Personally, I don't really understand why KB is being perceived as the sole hurdle to us being a "Super Bowl" contender. Did any of you REALLY think we were a Super Bowl contender(legit, not just happening to be one of 32 undefeated teams in Week 1) after a 7-8-1 season in the worst division in the NFL???

This hurts, without question. I have significant doubts we will be able to replace some of his production and the value of his size(especially in the red zone/third downs). However, I don't think that this is the end of our offense as we know it. It sucks mostly for our long term future than our short term future, IMO. I really hope this isn't something that hampers his career in the long term.

We will be okay this year, hopefully. Let's focus on the team improving overall and look forward to the possibility of being able to strengthen some of the other major weaknesses on our roster. Don't forget that a lot of the rest of the division is also pretty shitty. Buckle up boys, it's gonna be a bumpy ride.....

Exactly. Last year he was coming off a serious injury and still had the same production as Cotchery and Brown combined.  We don't have a legit number 2, let alone a legit number 1. At least he has had much experience as the number one even if he is on the downside.  It takes more than a year for a player to recover 100% from an ACL injury and he has now had the time to heal 100% and may be back to his 70-80 catch self.

Not even close.  First of all the Colts offense is WCO not Coryell like ours and they pass the ball all the time.  So any production he would have here wont be close to what he got there given our penchance to run the ball and control the clock.  Secondly, he was not their number 1 or 2 receiver last year but mostly was their third which means he wasnt lined up on their best corners but often a safety or linebacker.  He wont have that luxury if we are bringing him in on a 1 year rental which is what it would be.  He would be lucky to get 40 catches in out system and 50 yards which is not any different than Cotchery or Ginn at this point.
