FWIW: Mort Says Keep An Ear Out For Reggie Wayne

Yeah, that's why I've been asking for the position to be addressed...  And the Colts have made those same moves for the last few seasons to provide ample talent and competition at their QBs disposal.

But, anytime I brought up a guy like Johnson, Nicks, or Moore, it was usually met with the same condescending laugh and accusations that I think I know more than our front office executives.  No, I just simply believe the more you address a position of weakness with guys who at some point have shown football talent and have natural athletic ability, the better your team will be for it from top to bottom.  Everyone of those guys I mentioned are automatically our #1 with KB injured.

But I agree, what's done is done...   I just wish we would give Cam a chance at some point.  Yes, our defense wins games, but if you can't score because your QB has so few weapons (and an idiot OC calling games from his time machine), your offense can certainly lose them for you.

poo, man, you weren't the only one calling for a prolific upgrade at the position. I have been doing so for years! And now we have a really bad scenario---not the worst---a really bad scenario.  You mention Johnson, but Denarius Moore would have mitigated our problems greatly right about now.

We don't really have any sure-fire options, but I suppose Wayne is the best of the bunch.

So far in this thread, we've had Moss, Holmes, Lloyd, Rogers, and Danario Alexander mentioned. Wayne has got to be the best option out of that crew.

We need to get our own Victor Cruz also  the Run game could replace KB's production.

Greg Olsen: 1200 Yds

Funch: 1,000 Yds

Ginn: 700 Yds

 Brown: 700 Yds

Stewart: 1200+yds with 4.9 Yd/att  8 TDs

Cam Newton: 700+yds 5 TDs he will have to use his leg more to extend drives and ope up the offense. Also is fully healthy and upgraded OL.

CAP/ Toddman / Fozzy: 500 yds

Tolbert: 8 Tds   ( 7 TDs in 2013)

I'll have what you're drinking.

No doubt.  I've been advocating for the WR position to be addressed since after Moose left for Chicago.  But, the last two years have been even more urgent...

Andre was never my first or even second option.  I'm pretty sure there was a post or two before Andre was ever mentioned here, where I was begging for us to sign Moore.  I also had lobbied for Nicks since last season.  But, considering Moore's age and previous production he was my favorite.  I'm still puzzled as to why we showed no interest being that he wasn't expensive either, as that is the most used excuse as to why we haven't addressed WR.

The longer I think about this the more my stomach hurts over it, but in reality this may not be as large a blow as some want to believe. We do have more weapons now than at any point in the last several years. I'm not as positive about a great season as I was previously, but I'm not ready to jump off a bridge just yet.

what weapons do we have now?

The weapons you are counting are guys like Ginn who other teams with WRs don't deem good enough to be on the field.  Now I like Ginn but he is a nitch roleplayer.  Everyone else is as unproven as it gets.  Excluding Cotchery who is just here to be the vet

It's a huge blow.  Here is what NFL.com's Chris Wesseling (decidedly a pro-Panther writer from what I've read over the last couple of years) had to say:

The Panthers can still make a run in the wide-open NFC South behind Newton, tailback Jonathan Stewart and a swarming defense. The loss of a difference-making talent such as Benjamin limits their ceiling, however, crushing dreams of an extended postseason run.

And it's the postseason run that the Huddle was looking forward to. Now, I just don't know. It's never a time to jump off a bridge, but it is time to get real about expectations for the season. Even with a retread, we are going to have a helluva time beating the elite, particularly in the conference if we are lucky to make the dance.
