Let's put the Cotchery has little value takes to rest

Cotchery definitely has a place here.  I mean even if you don't love him....he can be a strong possession guy deep on the roster who can at least provide a vet presence in film/locker room for a very young WR corp.

keeping him him for one of the last spots would make more sense than Bersin.  Bersin's ceiling is very low for a WR.  Crotchery at least gives us one set of old eyes for the youngsters and can do everything Bersin can but better

why do you say bersin's ceiling is low?

you think he has the skill set to be anything other than an okay possession WR?  What about his game potentially would scare a defender?  What do you think his ceiling is and most importantly what part of his game do you think he can develop to get him there?

that is a low ceiling to me.   Out of the young guys who do you think has a lower ceiling?

So how would you have done it then?  Since shula is such a idiot.

Quick routes in the no huddle, which is where the offense had near 100% of its success. KB and Brown in deep routes, not Cotchery. And certainly no Cotchery lined up at RB like we did many times last year (and in practice this year)

i don't necessarily have an opinion either way, although imo his biggest weakness is getting separation off the line of scrimmage. if he can learn to fight through jams off the bat he'll become a more potent threat.

This thread is like saying you want to drive a Fiero because you don't see many on the road anymore.

Guess why you don't see them?

We still have mismatched talent and still are trying to figure out what to do.

I used to have a Fiero man. No power steering and one of the headlights was propped up with a wooden paint stir stick.

If you want him around for his experience than have him retire and become a coach. I like him but I think we have younger players that bring more to the table than Cotchery.

Outside of Byrd, who we might be able to stash on the practice squad,  I think we are going to cut a player that most likely will be wearing another uniform in September.  I would rather see Cotchery in a different uniform than some of our younger talent.

Problem with no huddle is yyou wear your defense out and bubble screens are quick routes.  Another problem with that is the same problem as with using Cotchery with a bubble screen he is not fast.  You need speed for quick outs or they get picked off quite easily.

This is why I rather keep Byrd and Bersin. Byrd is quick enough for what you speak and Bersin is that sure handed redzone guy.
