Let's put the Cotchery has little value takes to rest

top dawg

in fairness to cotchery he's misused by shula. he should be playing the flanker or running the occasional route out of the slot as a possession receiver, not running bubble screens and go routes.

Honestly last year Shula was forced to do that.  We had absolutely no speed to speak of outside brown.  This year Cotchery was made moot by Funchess. We have Brown and Funchess for the slot and we have Bersin as our pure possion WR who has good hands.

WE GET IT

You,  @Hollywood and a few others might get it,  but I present this thread as exhibit B that others still don't.

I began a thread last week about the receivers that some suggested was about my "hate" for Corey Brown. That thread was more about Cotchery for anyone taking anything more than a passing glance.  This thread is just confirmation of the other one. Of course both speak to our corps overall,  and each thread referenced a different key hint from Coach Rivera's mouth that should provide enough in support of the veteran to put claims of his uselessness on/off the field to rest. Here they are:

1. consistency

2. stability

No other current WR on our roster brings one of these things to the table,  much less both of them.  Yet people craft all kinds of  nebulous arguments to circumvent this truth.  So,  no,  they don't get it.

Moot doesnt mean what I think you are trying to suggest it does. Redundant might work better but Funchess hasnt done anything yet. Its kind of crazy how the expectation is that any rookie is going to be a starter quality player year one. Im glad we have guys like Proehl who value on field leadership.

Since when is 1 touchdown in 17 games considered the model of consistency for a WR in the NFL?

I'm sorry, but this is simply preposterous dawg.

Red, you're the poster child for tunnel vision when it comes to Cotchery.

Well that's rich considering some of your past statements about Corey Brown.

Maybe you could defend or back up your stance about Cotchery supposedly being the only WR on our roster last year capable of consistency instead of attacking me. The facts directly dispute your claim. I'm happy to hear it if you've got a reasonable rebuttal

"Attacking"? That is patented @TheRed. I have not attacked you, I have responded to your spurious arguments.  There is a whole other thread as to why Cotchery is being devalued by you and other Huddlers, and here is one of the responses.

We already know how each other feels about the situation, so there is no need to go back and forth about it anymore.  Thankfully, like I alluded to earlier in this thread, Gettleman seems to see things my way.

He was only forced to do that in refusing to call other plays that actually adjusted for our personnel.

You've really yet to offer anything other than articles written by other people. Which still does not do anything to negate the facts that have been presented here.

Oh, and just to be clear, I was definitely happy when we signed Jerricho. I thought he would help out in the red zone considerably. He did not hold up his end of the bargain statistically though last year. There is really no debate about that. His numbers speak for themselves. They reveal just about the exact opposite of consistency.

Well since you've personally spoken to Gettleman about Jerricho Cotchery, and determined his plan moving forward, I guess none of us need to bother offering our opinions anymore. My apologies.

You haven't presented any facts. You have offered some arbitrary comparisons to Underwood and tunnel vision about Cotchery's lack of TDs and how you're disappointed that Cotchery didn't get more last season based upon your own unrealistic expectations and lack of understanding as to why Cotchery was brought to Charlotte in the first place.

I have already addressed your points of contention in the other thread, just like some others have addressed those same points in this thread.

I'm getting ready to text Gman that you said "hello".

Cotchery definitely has a place here.  I mean even if you don't love him....he can be a strong possession guy deep on the roster who can at least provide a vet presence in film/locker room for a very young WR corp.

keeping him him for one of the last spots would make more sense than Bersin.  Bersin's ceiling is very low for a WR.  Crotchery at least gives us one set of old eyes for the youngsters and can do everything Bersin can but better

Merely scoring more than 1 touchdown in 17 games = unrealistic expectations?

lol
