Last nights game up close

So since I live in Syracuse New York (Go Orange) I was able to go to the game last night.

There were a few things I noticed in person that you guys might not have been able to see on tv. During pregame I was able to stand 10 feet away from Cam as he threw some passes and messed around in the endzone. Like many of us I was just amazed at how big he was up close and it's amazing how well he moves for someone his size. I also just wanted to point out how Kuechly is the man and took 5 minutes out of his warm up to come sign autographs and talk to the few Panthers fans that were there. Thank god I chose to wear his jersey to the game since he was the only Panther player that signed any autographs. Also during pregame is was so nice to see Ted Ginn back and catching punts effortlessly. It will be nice for us to not have to close our eyes and pray every time the other teams punts us the ball.

During the game it was nice to see the starting defense come out and make a nice stop on the opening drive without 3 of our starting DL members. I also couldn't help but notice how good Josh Norman really is. He was getting right in Sammy Watkins and Robert Woods faces and jamming them at the line and locking them down. He always seemed to have something to say to Watkins after every play. Speaking of Norman it was great to see him and Cam together telling jokes and laughing it up on the sideline. It was just a reminder that there is nothing to worry about between the two and that the media just overreacted to the fight since it involved Cam. After a slow start the offense came alive on Cam's third and final drive. I was very impressed with the first string offensive line, which did a great job in pass protection against a top notch front 7. Cam seems to have added a little more touch on his deep passes which someone else pointed out on here, and him and Ted Ginn have picked up where they left off two years ago. Kelvin Benjamin looks even more comfortable than last year and we can expect to see some big numbers out of him this year. I also so Kelvin working with Philly Brown on the sideline with how to fight off the press and create separation. Devin Funchess made some great plays and also missed out on a couple but overall I expect him to be a big weapon in our offense this year as he gains more experience. Even after Kuechly and Davis got taken out of the game early they seemed eager to coach up some of the young guys including Shaq Thompson who didn't play.

We are also very lucky to have a good back up in Derek Anderson. He just loves throwing it up to his big receivers and giving them a chance. I'm sure most of you saw it on tv but I was very impressed with his back shoulder throw to Boykin for a first down. Boykin was probably use to throws like that from Aaron Rodgers who does it the best. It's great to have a backup that we can count on to win a game if we need him to.

Overall I thought the game went well even though the offense started slow as usual. It was tough to get a good look at our starting defense since most of them barely played or didn't play at all but I think Frank Alexander and Kony Ealy need to step it up a notch. Mario Addison looked pretty good and got some pressure but he let a couple sacks get away from him. The player who probably saw his stock go up the most was Brandon Wegher and the player who seemed to struggle the most to me was Teddy Williams who just looked lost in coverage. This might be the most confident I've ever been in a Panthers team going into a season especially since the other 3 teams in our division are trash.

nice writeup. what part of syracuse are you from? i was actually up there a few days ago visiting my childhood home in baldwinsville and debated sticking around for the game, but i didn't really wanna put off the 11-hour drive back any longer than necessary.

Only thing I would add is, don't underestimate our division too much. The NFC South teams play each other tough for the most part.

Having watched quite a bit of the Atlanta game, I have to say Atlanta's D looked better than I expected.  I know, I know, it was the Titans, but still..., I don't think we should treat them lightly at all this year.  I'm much less worried about the Saints & Bucs.

Here's a write up about Atlanta's D yesterday:

I was very impressed with Frank Alexander. Every time I noticed him he was hustling and trying to make a play. Addison looked like a beast. His pass rush was on point. It wasn't a matter of whether or not he was going to get to the QB but a matter of when he got there. Ealy took a couple of bad angles against Tyrod but against most QBs Ealy would have been making some plays.
