Devin Funchess aka the enigma

Nope. I watched him at FSU for two years. Kelvin only responds in the face of criticism. If he was hard on himself, he wouldn't have showed up to FSU and Carolina out of shape. Yeah, it's only 10 lbs but that's more than enough to show me that he's not determined on every down. Benjamin is notorious for his lapses.

He was never out of shape here.

Benjamin had 9,000 drops last year...and he's worshiped.  Funchess has a drop in his first ever game experience in the NFL and he's an enigma?  What is this place?  Not like he was our best receiver last night or anything.  I'm excited about having him on the team.  The red zone just became fun for us.

He came to OTAs 10 lbs heavier than what he was suppose to. Not fat, but not tip top shape. Again, Cam, Luke, TD, Norman, Stewart, Olsen, etc all showed up ready. Benji didn't. He had to shave off those 10 lbs. That's the equivalent of a fighter missing his target weight at the weigh-in. Thankfully he didn't show up to OTAs 20-30 lbs heavier like he did at FSU but I don't trust him yet.

Seriously?

That catch over the middle last night in a preseason game should show you how dedicated Kelvin is to this team.

Did you ever realize that Benjamin was forced to be the number one reciever as soon as he came in.  He was double teamed from the get go and yet he still made some incredible catches and his dropping lessened by the end of the year. Kelvin was extremely raw when he came,  and the general consensus when he came was that he would need to improve his route running and hands.  Now on the other hand funchess was known for his fluidity,  route running,  and catching. Now yesterday,  funchess was going up against a rookie cb and still only made 2 catches the entire game. Not trying to bash Devin,  I want him to succeed as much as any of you,  but if you seriously think Devin is on the same level that Kelvin was on at this point last year,  your wrong.

There are a lot of reasons a guy can be a measly 10lbs "overweight". The least of which could be that they are a lazy ass.

Until it's three games in and drops an easy first down and touchdown...

Did you also forget the flag he got for unsportsmanlike conduct? Benjamin would have gotten his ass chewed out for something that stupid by the coaching staff.

That flag was kind of silly, he spun the ball, big whoop. He got a talking to from Ron, not a big deal. It's preseason. He made plays.

I don't understand what it is that you have against KB. You've been going out of your way for awhile now to find any negative you can about him. Yes he had some drops last year, but he produced plenty as a rookie for his team (1,000+ yards, 10 TD's). By all accounts he also continually strives to improve himself, and he's only just beginning his second season. There is more than enough to be positive about with KB. Just let the guy develop, and be thankful.

Point? I'm positive you wouldn't be defending him for it if this were the regular season with the game on the line.

To me, he's still that immature man-child from FSU. He's a behemoth with great physicality and size BUT he's yet to put immense effort and focus into every game, training session, diet, etc. Benjamin has the tendency of getting complacent and easily losing focus. That's why I don't see that drive in him to be the best. He's not disciplined. He doesn't have that chip on his shoulder. He's our Roddy White.

It's nothing personal against him but if he doesn't take the small things seriously then I won't take him seriously as our #1.

Wait a minute. You call an athlete you've never met or interacted with an "immature man-child", then question his drive, effort, and discipline based on "reasons", but then finish all that up by saying "it's nothing personal against him". That sounds pretty damn personal to me dude. The guy plays for your favorite football team, but you're talking about him like he plays for one of our division rivals or something.

You are pretty reasonable, and knowledgeable on most football subjects.

However, when the subject pertains to Kelvin Benjamin, there is some strong bias going on that anyone can see.
