Smith to the HOF

I take offense to people saying Steve never had a "GOOD QB" around him here. Bullshit. Cam wasn't good his first three years? Jake wasn't good for three or four years? Bullshit.

Jake was a good QB for Steve to have, because Jake would only throw it to Steve in many situations others would mistakenly give Jarrett or Colbert or, I don't know, Rod Gardner, a chance.

When I work in the Bobcat team store, he would come in a lot to shop with his wife and kids. Very nice quiet guy off the field but on the filed holy poo he would come down like the hammer of Thor. the thunder of his vengeance would echo through the stadium like the gust of a thousand winds

It is tough. You need to compare him to players he played with in the same era. His big seasons went up against the following:

terrell owens

randy moss

Marvin harrison

reggie wayne

isaac bruce

tory holt

hines ward

calvin johnson

larry firzgerald

andre johnson

those are a lot of wide receivers to go up against. I would say there is a good shot all 10 of those guys eventually making it. The only one im not confident about is Hines Ward, but he was a steeler and won a super bowl. I hope he makes it but i don't know if he was thought as highly as those other 10. And believe me I without a doubt think he was better than the likes of Ward and wayne. I am just talking about how the voters might look at it.

I'm sure our paths crossed if you were one of the ones charged with the task of standing at the stairs and saying "enjoy the game" before we figured out a way to bumblefug ourselves into what was probably a loss

Tim Brown got in and he only had 9 years with 1,000 yds +.  Steve Smith has 8.

The NFLHOF gives zero shlts about who you had to struggle with at QB.  I hate to say it but I have doubts Smitty gets in.  WR is getting harder and harder to differentiate as HOF elite.  Not saying he won't forever but I will say he will not anytime soon.

When his jersey is retired as a Panther I will clap a little slower and a little quieter than I would have if he would have just moved on and kept his trap shut.

You can hate me if you want but I guarantee you he would tell you to your face he gives absolutely NO fugs about the Panthers or their fans today, which is sad.

Could he be reasonable or a gentleman and just say that he plays for another team and that after he is done he will probably look back with fond memories on all the teams he has played for?

Yes he could.  But he won't.  And I doubt he ever will.

Loved him yesterday because he loved us yesterday,

He has no use for us now...how should I feel?

Steve Smith was sent packing. I'm not mad at Smitty. Gets maybe, JR a little.

When he retires they should do the right thing and welcome him back. He is perhaps the single biggest reason this city sniffed the last Superbowl and people that are mad at him for the words after the breakup don't know a damn thing about the Smitty. You should have expected it

They should honor this man and if they don't I'll take THAT personal

Curious to know what Zod and all of you think about John Harbough, currently one of the best coaches in the league imo, saying that he really would like for Smitty to coach and thinks he'd be great.

Sounds like he does a great job working with young guys to me, but maybe Dwayne Jarrett wouldve been successful if Moose was coaching him instead of Smitty right? Its too bad Smitty hurt his feelings and all the other receivers that never got good, smh.

lol

I agree with this in part. I don't think Steve's stats would have been much higher with a top tier QB during the Jake years because of how locked in to him Jake was. I do, however, think 89 was one of the only receivers in the game who could have caught a lot of that junk Jake was throwing up. Thus the fact that he put up those numbers with Jake is, I think, a sign of his greatness.

Don't get me wrong; I loved watching Jake play. But he was a weird quarterback.
