Star Wars The Old Republic

Well I would make a char on Darth Malak but I'm not waiting for a 4 1/2 hour queue. Virtually every server is 1 hour+ or close to it. I thought this was a stress test, why so few servers for so many testers?

To make sure that the servers remain at maximum capacity throughout the designed "stress" time.

By the look of things they could double the number of servers and every one could stay at full capacity. There are a couple servers that have a queue over a day.

Possibly, but they set the parameters that they want to test, a few servers at maximum is a much easier test to monitor than doubling that amount. In the end, while still in BETA this company's job isn't to pander to users who want to "test", it's to make sure that they have a stable, working product on retail release.

I was in an 800 person queue that went in under an hour.

Been playing with the girlfriend all weekend. The game is quite fun multiplayer... We've been able to duo nearly all the content save for one or two Balmorra Heroic 4s.

I have been pleasantly surprised by the game. I went in expecting to be disappointed after I got bored of WoW and Rift... but I've enjoyed the leveling quite a bit and combat flows much smoother than I expected from reading it and watching videos. I enjoyed the KOTOR games, so it's no surprise I guess that I am enjoying this one as well.

I think thats its hook and might be its ultimate downfall.

Its really just KOTOR the MMO.

The game is all about the story

WoWites wont appreciate that.

It depends what they do with the other aspects of the game. You can skip through quests if you really want to, then it becomes just another MMO. The thing is, the story is fun and engaging... but how will they handle it at max level?

How often will content come out? What will there be to do? What will pvp/pve end games look like?

A lot of questions unanswered about this game, and tbh, we won't know the answer to most for some time after release. IMO, you really don't know anything about a game's endgame until the first couple content patches.

It's still an mmo though. I remember someone from bioware saying swtor is kotor 3, 4, 5, 6, etc and thought he was full of poo when he said it because it's an impossible notion. At best it's kotor 3 with 8 different main story lines at worst it's a diluted rpg that you play online.

Bioware is leveraging the popularity of what would be kotor3 by getting mmo subscriptions out of it. I hope they're successful because I've really enjoyed what I've played so far, but in the end they're wanting to have their cake and eat it too. Having played a guardian and sage through Coruscant I know that the only difference is one quest line. Now that's not hugely different from a single player rpg but they're limited to what they can do with each story line because they all have to converge to a particular level and zone simply because it's an mmo.

It's story driven and awesome imo, but I just can't help but wonder what happens when the story is over(or stagnates). Sure I can just play all the classes to see all the stories, but if it's not successful as an mmo I would much rather have a fully fleshed out single player rpg.
