Cams maturity again?

It actually has been awhile since we've had a legitimate Cam Newton troll around here.

Part of that has to do with the fact that while there are many people who dislike him for no reason, they are unwilling to spend a dollar just to sign up for a new account to talk poo about him on a Panthers message board. Of course then we get characters like "ManDown#21" who just can't help themselves.

TonyN will probably reappear at some point in the season, then disappear for another 8 months.

Or some of us spent years in leadership positions ourselves and we just disagreed with your personal view of what leadership is and how it applied to Cameron Jerrell Newton.

The fact that you think there's only one cookie-cutter way to be a leader makes me suspect that you weren't taught the ins and outs of leadership very well. ;)

So you got a personal diagnosis from my comments?  Damn, you are good.  Seriously--you do realize that I said only things that Cam himself has said. His family, his coaches, and his teammates, all comment on his maturation.  Did you think they were referring to his diaper days?   If you want to lead, a little objectivity would do you well.  I didn't invent leadership, and since you offer no explanation of how his press conferences, towel, pouting constituted maturity and leadership, you are simply whining.  The fact that you can't see his progress tells me that you are incapable of evaluating anyone.  Now back to the fries, assistant shift manager.

Head coach Ron Rivera said quarterback Cam Newton seemed more mature in a recent visit and "seems like a different person," according to Charlotte Observer reporter Scott Fowler.  (Why would he say that if Cam has been mature the whole time?  Is it consistent with Gene C's comments above?  Yes.  Does that mean Cam's coaches were conspiring against him, and the media was involved?  Duh.

These quotes are a few years old.  Cam has since admitted that he had a lot of growing up to do.

So relax if people say he was not mature. Newsflash--the media was not out to get Cam.  The critics had reasons for their opinions, something that upset those who lack the ability to see how his caustic body language was hurting the team.  Sure he should have been upset when he screwed up, but when you carry that over to the next play, it hurts your team. TEAM being the operative word.  He is much more mature now,  but  at times needs to think more clearly.  I am totally happy where Cam is now compared to where he was.  Sorry if you don't get that -- it is really not complex.

What is telling, however, is the people here who defend Cam at every turn by attacking the critics instead of making a counter point.  That is immature and childish, so it is a bit ironic that they adopt an unrefined, sophomoric approach to discussing a topic like maturity.

So regardless of what you think, there is reason to support an opinion that questions Cam's maturity during the first 2-3 years.

Nice

Your post is only valid if your concept of leadership is universal.  I have played sports and have been in leadership, positions in the military, corporate and business ownership level.   There is no one type of leadership.  The only thing that matters is results.

I have seen Tom Brady walk a referee off the field arguing,  I have seen Peyton Manning cursing out lineman,  seen HOF QB's grab facemask of receivers, or get in coaches grill. Cam imitates Michael Jordan with the towel and everyone called him the real leader of the bull championship teams.  You know why there is never a leadership question with them?  Because they have wins.   Cam's interview questions and sideline demeanor hasn't changed very much, but when we went 12-4 everyone changed the narrative to he has matured.

Everyone's "concept" of leadership is different.  A nice guy coach like Vermiel won a superbowl and a hard ass like Coughlin has as well. Fun loving, always joking Brett Farve has won just as much as clinical always professional Peyton Manning.  Bland Eli Manning is 2-0 vs Belichek/Brady.

Should Cam be going at Norman? Nope.  But as the coaches have said and Cam as well, it will make them better in the end.  Maybe it's just what they both needed to have standout years.  But saying it shows immaturity is just relying on the same lazy media driven narrative.

The reason everyone's concept of leadership is different, and the reason you can provide examples of various leadership styles is because the leader is judged by the productivity of his followers.  Cam was not liked much when he was a rookie and even a second-year player.  Vets have said that.  They were not productive and rarely did Cam carry the team.  He put up stats, had flashes of brilliance, but there was no cohesion.

We blamed the line, the OC, the WRs, but they were not playing under a leader.

Cam has tremendous qualities, but when you provide examples of leadership, you don't provide one of a young Cam Newton.

However I appreciate your counter --it was logical and classy.  I see your points, but don;t think they define 2011 and 2012 Cam, they defend him.
